Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello. Some of you may know me as the guy who wrote what some people call "the greatest Sonic fanfic ever". While I am flattered by the notion, I am a humble person, and I am sure there are much better writers out there who have yet to be acknowledged.
I don't have any particular style of beta-reading, but I do have expectations for people who want me to read their stuff. I expect writers to put time and effort into their writing, and must also have the desire to improve, not to have their rear end kissed. I am not afraid to tell you what's wrong. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
As a writer, I feel I am able to envision what the characters are doing as I write, sort of like a film playing in the back of my head. If it doesn't play out well, I try something else. Much of what I write is done so almost out of fancy. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Of course, I have weaknesses. I have a bad tendency to create conflicting plot elements, and I must sadly say that I will incorporate elements of almost anything that strikes my fancy into my stories, sometimes without regard to their effects on the plot, and sometimes regret doing so at a later time. I also tend to incorporate too many characters without focusing on them. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I like stories with character development, especially ones that have well-placed tidbits of side conversations between two or more characters. My favorites are adventure stories, especially if they have WELL-WRITTEN romantic parts that still take a backseat to the adventure. Lemons (heavily sexual fics) will also be tolerated if they are well-written and not just about two characters having sex. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I will not betaread anything that completely rips apart a character's canon personality (especially if it makes them emo), nor will I read stories with 100 word chapters where everyone! talks! like! this! It really annoys me. I also refuse to betaread yaoi and shounen-ai, though I will betaread yuri and shoujo-ai if it seems to be well-written. So, if you want me to check it out, make an effort. |
