Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Put whatever you wish before me - I will give most anything a chance. The only things I really will automatically turn down and ignore are requests to read incest stories, or yuri stories. So if you have come to my beta profile in the hopes I will help you with such stories, I'm afraid to say that I can't. br /br /br /
I wish to ask that should you choose me to be your beta reader, then in your request, I wish for you to give me a title and link to your story, and perhaps a basic rundown of what it is - pairings involved, type of universe, current and future ratings above all else - before I take it into account. I will usually reply as soon as I get the PM in my email or inbox, and usually that is within 12 hours of sending.
I'll work with you as often as possible and I don't give up on those who come to me looking for help. I do my best, I really do. I will stick with a writer until they are finished with their project, or they do not wish to have me as a beta any longer. You may leave our partnership at any time, and you don't even need to inform me of it.
As such, I believe that gives me the right to leave at any time with or without warning as well. I am here for your services, but please keep in mind I do not like to be talked down to or treated rudely. I only ask a few questions here and there, and I would like it if you could spare the time to answer those questions instead of the reply of, "Just go check it out and do this, that, and the other." Oftentimes, unwillingness to work with me tends to cause me to be the first to back out.
If I do something that you do not like or offends you, then I understand any action or reaction that will be given. I do ask that if at all possible, should you decide to leave, I would like some feedback on my performance and how I did. This is optional, and I won't hold it against you if you wish not to. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I "read like a writer" as it goes. I have a lot of knowledge gained from having published authors as friends, as well as tips I have picked up from author manuals and writing resource books and other such things.
I balance out my con-crit with praise, because oftentimes there are gold nuggets of amazingness to be found in every fanfiction. I am a notorious Spelling/Grammar/Punctuation Nazi, so if you wan to polish that off then I may be the person you want to turn to. I look to help expand writers' vocabularies to prevent redundancy, which can be a turn-off for readers. I have a keen eye for detail, and I'm good at picking out plot holes that can be damaging to the story. I also do not like fragmented sentences, so I have been known to pick things out, and sometimes I can get rather nitpicky (my apologies).
Lastly, I do my best to help add a bit more depth to the story on the whole. I wish to help make the fanfiction and engaging read for those who wish to open it, and it's my hope that my efforts help, not hinder, the chosen writer. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I do not have the best stomach for lemons. I will read them, of course, but I can't promise the best advice or help with such scenes. I fail at writing horror or anything remotely horrific, so that is not the best genre to come to me with.
Sometimes I seem a little overbearing. I can be a little too nitpicky, or sometimes the writer feels I don't give enough praise to balance out the critiquing and con-crit. I do apologize, and once again, I do my best.
I've been known to overlook some small details, especially on my first read-through. And there are times when I can get easily distracted as I read what is given me, and not be able to give the best advice as my mind is elsewhere. Whenever one hands me something to read, I always make it a top priority, but there some times things in my day-to-day life that hinder that. Again - I apologize, and assure you, I try my best at staying on-task. Oftentimes, I succeed. Sometimes, I don't. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer to stick with what I know. For now, I'm giving an emphasis on "Kuroshitsuji", "Maximum Ride", and "Death Note" fanfictions. However, all of my categories are still open, and I still accept offers for whichever category I have listed. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Do not ask me to read bestiality, incest, vore, or yuri. You request will be turned down, perhaps even ignored immediately. That's about it. |
