Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I will read with an eye to style, content, tense, continuity, transitions, and what makes sense. I use MS Word and the "track changes" feature so the red marks go back to original text. If you want me to be your beta you can't get upset because I tell you to change something for grammar/spelling/and punctuation. I will send back anything not previously passed first by you through the Spell and Grammar checker feature in MS Word. The checker isn't always correct but it gets the worst of the mistakes first.
I write articles and columns for various Sci-fi websites. If you want a more professional eye to your work, I'll give it a go. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am excellent at proper grammar. I understand some characters are speaking in the vernacular and will be exceptions. I return stories promptly. When you finish beta work with me, no one will criticize your grammar or spelling. I insist you pass the piece through Spell Check/Grammar Check before you send it to me. We'll go from there. If you don't understand the corrections, I'll explain. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I have little patience with writers who say they want a beta and can't accept criticism. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer stories about shows I watch or have watched. That excludes anime, cartoon, video games, and comic books. I am knowledgeable about most Classic TV, Sci-fi, and Westerns. I have only seen the HP movies and never read the books so I don't know many details HP writers give their stories. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I absolutely will not read slash, porn, near porn, explicit sex scenes, child abuse stories, excessive graphic violence... you get the idea. Go ahead and blow them up, but I don't want to read endlessly about the gore. I'm not offended by adult language if it fits the scene and the character. I'm not into the shock value of it. |
