Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm not overly fond of red and green squiggles, but I still like using Microsoft Word for editing. It catches the kind of mistakes I'm most likely to overlook. I pay more attention to plot and character details than I do to the squiggles.
Awkward wording also outranks the squiggles. If something doesn't sound quite right to me, I will mention and obsess over it. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Spelling, character development, plot development, and knowing a whole lot of random canon details that sane people probably aren't concerned with. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Unfortunately, my teachers never quite managed to pound the wonders of grammar into my head. I have a pretty good ear, but it would probably take an hour of flipping through a grammar textbook to figure out why my intuition isn't wrong. The rules of grammar tend to confuse me because I think way too much. That's another weakness, by the way. I occasionally get so distracted by my own thoughts that I unlearn things.
Dialogue also gives me trouble, but that's mostly because I tend to avoid human contact. It isn't the bane of my existence, but it irritates me enough to get mentioned. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Being most familiar with femslash and character studies, I prefer those. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I'm underage, so I'm not comfortable beta reading sex scenes. *Scenes*. I don't mind stories with sex in them; it'll just be the actual scenes that get ignored.
I'd also rather not beta stories where a heterosexual couple is the main focus. Relationships are relationships, but my own preference would keep me from being as effective as possible. |
