Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Who am I?
I'm Vannessa Hillstead, known as VH, VV, V, Vannie, Nessa, and Van. I've been on FFN for two years, three years this November.
"My betareading style", ay? Well, here goes.
When editing anything, be it a composition or a simple dialogue, I basically list everything that I believe should be changed. For betareading, you would basically get the same thing.
For anyone wishing to aquire me as a betareader:
-Be patient, I do have things to do outside FFN
-DO NOT submit a story to me that you know I WILL NOT betareader. This is a waste of time, and I will not answer your request
-DO NOT send me a zillion PMs asking about my whereabouts if I'm on vacation. I don't like cleaning out my inbox one bit. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm rather good at helping with grammar, character development, and plot lines. I'm not perfect, of course, but I have a knack for spotting improper grammar when I see it, even if others don't spot it right off. It's fairly easy for me to notice a Sue, even if it's almost unnoticeable. I can assist with characterization, and can tell when characters from fandoms that I know are OOC, and when they're IC and how one should go about fixing it. Like I said, I'm not perfect, but I do have a few strengths, and would be willing to help someone that needed assistance in these areas of writing. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
No writer is perfect. I still have a lot to learn about writing, and there are a few areas that I don't do so well in. I, myself, tend to under describe scenes, and not delve very far into the characters thoughts and motivations behind their actions. However, I will try to help as best I can in those areas, just be forewarned that they're not exactly my strong suit. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I don't really have too much of a preference as to what I would like to beta. Basically, I'll take a look at anything as long as it isn't M-rated. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I'm a very open minded person, and will beatread most stories. However, I tend to shy away from reading stories that contain excessive violence, a lot of sexual content. So basically M-rated stories are things that I won't look at. |
