Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a better reader than a writer. Most of the time, I can pick up on both the style of the writing, the use of words, the tone, and some other things related to those. I can accept betareading most stories. Expect me to be not to berate, I tend to be gentle with my comments on the stories but can still honestly do my job as well. Betareading for me might also take time because I dwell in the story's details most of the time. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I believe I am capable of betareading most entries given that I have experienced workshops about the do's and don'ts of the word. As a reader, I can detect the things most people would not take time observing a second time. With details, I tend to look at the major elements and surround those with minor elements. Background of most stories is also an important thing for me, I want things to be as canon as possible. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
As a writer, I might be too technical sometimes because I do a lot of technical writing (read: mini-theses every semester). With this, I am not really certain if this is a weakness or a strength. But for a thing, I am sure that I might lose the magic of literature writing and its touch. With betareading however, I can be more flexible. I love to read all kinds of things so I might mix things up from one time or another. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer to beta stories that I have a background of. It will be advantageous for both me and the person owning the story I will beta because I can provide better insights and canon characterization and facts. As an anime aficionado, I prefer to beta stories with...
- Normal pairing(s) (if there are pairings in the story, that is). Limitation would be fluff, romance.
- Relation to the shows or manga I know. (Tell me beforehand, I am too lazy to list things up here)
- An author willing to let his/her story be betaread (Read: To be criticized, to be crutinized, to be praised, name it) |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
- I am not totally against slash pairings (yaoi, shounen-ai) or femslash (yuri, shoujo-ai) but if there's a chance, I'd better betaread stories without these theme.
- Stories with mature or adult themes. Again, I'm fine reading it but I think I cannot help those stories improve. Gore would be fine, but anything else, please exclude me. We are after improvement, and I can't help them with that. |
