Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'll always be happy to read something over, edit it, and give you my thoughts on it, but it would be great if you let me know what in particular you'd like in terms of feedback. If you just want me to catch technical mistakes, that's cool. If you want me to give you feedback on plot, characterization, dialogue, etc, that's cool, too. My feedback will be as laidback or as harsh as you'd like it to be.
I feel it's only fair to warn that as I work full-time, I may not always be able to give you feedback immediately. My turn-around time will probably be around 2-3 days. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Being a Literature major, I'm pretty good in technical areas, such as spelling, grammar, punctuation, and sentence variation. I've also got a pretty good sense of pacing when looking at other people's work. Though I don't pretend never to have veered into OOC-ness myself, I can help steer you in the right direction if your characters start to get OOC. I can also spot pretty quickly when a story or part of a story is getting dry or is starting to meander. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
As for my writing, I have trouble sticking with chapter fics, which is why I don't have many posted. That's not to say I won't beta for chapfics, but I can't seem to stay with one plot long enough to write many of my own. My writing also tends to take itself a little too seriously. And I'm not great with humor or fight scenes.br /br /br /

My biggest weakness as a beta reader would probably be that I'm not always as strict as I think a beta reader should be. I'm trying to work on that, though I suppose some people might be looking for a less demanding beta. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'm pretty much open to anything listed in my beta preferences. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
If a fic was hompohobic/sexist/racist/any other-ist, or exceedingly graphic, whether in terms of sex or violence, I would not beta for it. If necessary violence or a non-explicit sex scene play into a larger story, that's fine, but gratuitous violence or a oneshot lemon, for example, wouldn't work for me. I also will not beta for fics that bash characters, and I'm not a big fan of OCs as super-prominent characters. There are also certain pairings that I'm so uncomfortable with that it would hamper my ability to beta, though those are few and far between. |
