Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Well, I'm in an advanced English course (International Bachelaurette English, High Level) so I have quite a bit of experience in reading and editing. We do quite a bit of peer editing in out essays and such, and I'm one to read it over and over to find mistakes. My style is basically, read it over once, looking for basic gramatical or spelling errors, then read it again for plot abnormalities, then again to assess the flow of the writing.
For me, also, the basic expectation is that the story is of good quality (i.e. it isn't just a non-stop paragraph of bad spelling and unfinished thoughts) and that it DOES NOT have any "lemony content" (such as sexual situations). |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm critical and thorough, so I'll find most of your mistakes. I'm also good at finding plot inconsistencies, or saying when something is too bland or too drawn out (as I, myself, am an avid ranter). |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm a perfectionist, and sometimes a "little" too critical. Don't take everything I say as right (obviously), such as if you disagree with me on something, go ahead with your own process. Also, I have a tendency to forget if I've said I would beta read your story, so give me some reminders every once in a while. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Well, I'm not one for really anime-based fanfics (although some I will read). I enjoy reading video-game based fics the most, where movie fics come in second. I love one-shots, although I have been known to read the longer stories, once I get into them. Also, I prefer if the main characters from the game/movie/show remain the main characters in the story, and that the OCs aren't too OOC. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Lemons! No! I will not read anything overly sexual (funny sexual tension, however, is good). Nothing too graphic either (take into account, I'm 16), although keep in mind I have a much easier time reading and editing something violent then something that includes a hardcore sex scene (I once fell apon a "Jak and Daxter" lemon, and I've shuttered from the thought ever since). Other then that, I'm all for it. Just don't expect me to read a sex scene. :P |
