Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I do not have much experience in beta-reading, aside from helping some friends, but am planning on improving that. I usually reread the text a dozen times at various intervals, so as to minimize chances of errors slipping by, might poke around asking questions if something isn't clear or could be simpler. Fandoms are mostly HP, FFVII/XII, KH, but I might consider quite a few others - message me, and I'll discuss it with you.
I will beta both in English and French - I am fluent in both. I'll also help translate, if you need it. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am an extremely fast reader, and am rather good at detecting grammar/spelling errors. I also have a tendency to go off on epic crossovers, so hopefully I can help you find some original ideas for AUs or crossovers. On the other side, if you prefer sticking with canon, I don't mind either. I like researching for little details, to add to the realism of the story. I'm not afraid to nitpick if something seems strange or missing, and will say what I think, and add in some suggestions.
Also, English and French. I'm ready to beta for both languages, and maybe translate. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I am often busy. English is not my first language, so some minor things, may slip by - I also overuse comas, so I won't help much on that particular point of punctuation. Grammar is not my strongest point; I might be able to say something is wrong with a sentence, but not what exactly. I'm also not very good with long-winded, technical descriptions. First-person POV is not what I prefer, I have trouble getting the character to express properly his thoughts/feelings/etc. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Oneshots, shorter stories, although I wouldn't mind the longer too much. I'll do adventure, angst, pretty much everything. AUs and crossovers are good, especially in fandoms I'm very familiar with (HP, FFVII/XII...). Third-person POV is preferred. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Overly fluffy and/or romantic stories, although that can be worked around. Otherwise, PWP, genderswitch, Mpreg. Major OOC and Mary Sues are a big no-no. Same for self-inserts. OCs? I'd prefer to avoid, especially if they're main characters. |
