Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm already an experienced beta-reader, and even though it's bad form to blow one's own horn I like to think that I can give a distinctive touch to any author's work. =D
BE WARNED - I will not accept work below a certain standard. My writing, although it may not be perfect, is correct in both spelling and grammar, and I expect the same of any writers I beta-read for. Elitist? Maybe, but I don't want to spend all my time correcting your writing when we could be improving the story itself: I'm sure you find this a reasonable want. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
1. I write perfect English. (And if I make even one mistake, I punish myself for it - only kidding. =D)
2. Though I say so myself, I can tell whether or not a story is exciting from the first paragraph, and if it isn't then I can tell how to improve it.
3. I have a vocabulary so developed that people sometimes can't understand what I'm saying when I talk to them. (This is actually true - the number of times I've seen people smile awkwardly at me in the hope that it would start to make sense can't be counted on any number of hands you'd care to mention.)
4. I'm Japanese. Yup, that's right, but I haven't been there in ages. Still, if you want basic cultural information or translations then I'm the one to ask.
5. I can write very funny decriptions when appropriate (and sometimes when INappropriate). If you want a sample of what my work can be like when I jazz up the comedy, read some Douglas Adamas or Terry Pratchett - they are my idols. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I have VERY exacting standards and am not all that forgiving. If I don't see any potential in you or your work, you will be outta here faster than a cheetah wearing greased roller-skates. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Yah... this is pointless, really. Any true writer knows that there are no 'types' of stories that are inherently better than others - if you are a good writer, you can write a good story no matter what type it is.
So if you write good stories, whatever they may be, get in touch. ;) |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Although I hate to say this, I actually can't do yaoi. I just can't. Yuri I am fine with. Yes, call me a hypocrite, because I know I am one. Unfortunately, guy-on-guy action is something I just can't deal with. Sorry, because I know this particular genre is very popular amongst fanfictioneers, but I just can't do it. Not won't: CAN'T. |
