Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
ABOUT ME: Just call me Sakura, that's my Japanese name. I live in Japan, but I attend International School, so I'm quite adept at the English Language. I'd say I'm a talented writer, not one of the most amazing authors like the ones who sell international bestsellers on the New York Times list, but I love to write. LOVE to write, I tell you. I love to correct grammar (though sometimes the rules are quite annoying), and help add more feeling into writing.
TO BETA OR NOT TO BETA: Okay. I've Beta'd about four stories right now, three of my sister's, and one other one from one of my readers. I'm basically one for reading and writing (mostly writing) Naruto and Harry Potter fanfiction. I personally have a gazillion (sorry, wrong number to use.) stories saved on my computer that have not been published yet. I'm a little bit of a tough beta person. I'm into grammar and details.

My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I love DIALOGUE, commas, and grammar. I love to write using prose; poetry is not always the clean spot on a messy counter. I can describe things in metaphor, but for some reason I was called the "dialogue queen" by my teacher two years ago. Haha. Writing's my passion, basically. Ask my friends. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
As a writer, I sometimes am quite horrible at description, beginnings, and endings. But the meat of the story is my favorite part. I can do summaries, character details, and everything, but when it comes to describing feelings, I'm a little bit bad at that, but I can do it.
Romance isn't always my good point; I'd say I'm quite content with that. I do NOT write M-Rated stories, though I do sometimes read them. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I will not beta stories that are not original (if it is an overused plot, no thank you. But, if it is developed and going straight underway, I'd love to read it). To me, ORIGINALITY is the key to success.
One such example of unoriginal is: "Sasuke and Sakura are famous popstars!"
What would I say? BORING. Develop it a little more. Development makes the readers want more.
The genres I prefer to read are: action/adventure (though I cannot write a proper action scene for my life...I can read and beta them to add a little more spice and detail.), romance, drama, angst, stories that are ongoing and pleasing. Alternate Universes catch my eye, and so do twisted stories with (ahem) some spice.
I read stories with the following pairings:
NARUTO: SasuSaku, SasuNaru, NaruHina, NaruSaku (though I don't like it quite as much as the first three), KakaShizu, KakaAny, ItaAny, ItaSaku, SasoSaku, DeiIta, any pairings are fine with me. NO UCHIHACEST ALLOWED.
HARRY POTTER: Canon pairings most likely. HarryHermione SOMETIMES allowed. I am a strong RonHr shipper.
HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL: Ryella, Troyella, canon and un-canon. I really don't care.
TWILIGHT: BellaEdward, BellaJacob. Basically any pairing in Twilight. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Well, some things I wouldn't betaread are stuff including overused plots, not enough detail, some stories that aren't updated in time (due to the fact that I can be an eager reader sometimes), and some things like that.
I read any genre. Make sure your story is an original plot. If not, for example, the Naruto High School thing (I have used that myself, guiltily), have it developed and make it your OWN. |
