Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I don't really have anything to do with English as a subject, but I am the daughter of an English Professor at NIU, my grandmother taught English in high school, and my sister majored in English at Indiana University. I guess you could say reading and writing are in my genes. I helped proof read my friends' papers when I was in college. I'm not someone who's going to mindlessly fawn over everything you write. Grammar and sentence structure are important to me, but so is plot. I avoid rambling stories with few descriptions and vague dialogue like the plague. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I'm very good at spotting punctuation, spelling, and general grammar errors. I also notice repetition and redundancies (har) and overuse of certain words or phrases. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not incredible at spotting story flow problems, unless there's clearly disjointed or fragmented sections to the story. If you're sensitive to criticism, I may not be the best beta reader for you. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer longer stories to short stories, but will beta either. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Slash. Songfics, or stories with a lot of song lyrics in them. |
