Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I've got a master's degree in education, and I've been writing for as long as I can remember. I'm a perfectionist, which is reflected in my beta work. I'm not the sort of reader you want if you can't take constructive criticism or if all you're looking for is a pat on the back. I have a reputation for being brutally honest and commenting on virtually everything (I once beta'd a 5 page story and ended up with 96 comments). Please don't ask me to read for you if this idea frightens you. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Grammar and mechanics, rhythm and flow, characterization and voicing, basic point of view issues. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
Pacing, action scenes (I find them difficult to write, much less edit), point of view occasionally when you get into the advanced issues. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer to beta read short stories, as they're easier projects to finish. With a long story, I usually require some proof that the author has finished a rough draft before I'll take the project on. This is for the same reason I don't read WIPs - I hate getting stranded in the middle. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
slash, noncon, rape, fetish fic, character bashing fic |
