Beta Description
Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hello! Who am I? Cheeseycraziness, and besides the fact that I'm a girl you'll not be finding out much more about me than that, personal info wise. Things you might discover could include my interests, my occasional fluff explosions at certain pairings (KD and SS cough cough), or other random things. I'm very serious when it comes to beta-ing, and can be somewhat harsh and a bit of a perfectionist, but I'm only trying to bring out the best in the writing. Besides that, I'm very hyper, friendly, spastic, and a bit insane, but overall (I hope) I'm easy to work with.
My strengths are outlined below, as you can see. How I work is fairly simple. I'll see what's been written up, and I'll go through it. I'll correct any spelling and grammar I come across, and anywhere else I'll write a note. I'm not going to write your story for you, I'm going to guide you to making it better. For example, if I see a spot lacking in detail, I won't add in my own detail, I'll write a little note telling you that a little detail would help, and maybe suggest a way to find the detail, such as describe more what it FEELS like rather than how you see it. See what I mean by guiding?
For timing, if you send me something to beta, I check my email, messages, and other things at least twice a day, so I should find the story quickly. Whether or not I get it back quickly will differ, but average between a little while after finding the message or at the most a day.
Thank you! I hope I can help!
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I excel at catching grammar and spelling mistakes - that's definitely my best. I can also help with characterization, find flaws in the plotline, and I'm very good at catching it when a character is inhumanly perfect, meaning a Mary Sue, or something like that. I'm good at describing objects, landscapes, places, and so on. Finally, I can catch things like confusing sentences, or inaccuracies, or other small details that don't NEED to be improved but could make the story better. Things that are often overlooked, such as using a certain adjective too much, finding repetitiveness, and so on... Yeah.
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
There are three things I can NOT describe. Ever. Dresses, people, and houses. I'm also VERY honest, which means I might be occasionally harsh.
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I prefer stories that try to keep the characters, well, in character. Some just don't try. Others deliberately change one character and keep the others normal, and while those are not preferred, I'm fine working with them. I definitely love working with all kinds, though: one-shot, mystery, fantasy, romance, you name it. Only exception? Historical fiction, though I'll make exceptions for exceptional stories. Excuse the pun, please!
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Stories that are self-insertion or own-character narrated never really work for me, though if the own-character never meets canon characters that's fine. Please give me a story that has the plot centered around characters from what your story is, for lack of a better term, fanfictioning, or one that only uses the setting for the fanfiction.
