Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I love fanfiction, probably a bit too much, so it distresses me when I see a story with potential, but bad grammar and spelling bring it down. I didn't major in English or anything, but I can usually pick up when a sentence is missing something. Also, I am usually pretty quick to pick up spell check errors (clam instead of calm and such). I really want to help too. I know I don't update my story that often, but that is because I am way too hard on myself. I refuse to put out anything I don't see as exceptional... which makes it difficult for me, because exceptional is quite hard to achieve. If you chose me as your beta (...somehow I am reminded of cheesy Miss America or high school class president speeches), I would make sure to put your stories as a priority... It would be another great way to avoid studying. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am not afraid to make myself look like an idiot asking for help. On top of my writing experience, you would be getting my roommate's as well, because I can always ask him for help when I come across a tricky sentence. He claims I have the talent for writing, but he has a talent for the English language. Whenever I have trouble spelling a word, he seems to know how to spell it (or get it close enough that spell check recognizes it as a word verses a jumble of letters). I also tend to obsess a bit, so nothing will leave my sight without being checked several thousand times. Oh... I also am really picky about plot holes. I am currently trying a fix a couple in my own story. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
...I can get a bit lazy. I don't mean to be, but why do things today when you can do them tomorrow... or the day after... or next week. It is different being a beta though. When it is work for someone else, I usually try a whole lot harder. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I don't really know what I would prefer. I like some type of stories for some series, and I like completely different types of stories for other series. Throw me stuff... let's see what I catch. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Multiple crossovers... One story, okay. Two story crossover, bring it on. Three or more... you had better be a good writer, because it is hard to pull that off, and I don't know how much I can help you out there. |
