Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I am a sixteen-year-old junior in high school, but I believe I have a highly advanced sense of grammar and style in comparison. I'm the kind of person who reads books on punctuation and literature for a hobby. I did seriously attempt to read the entire dictionary through at one point. Anyhow, I practice writing a great deal more than most people, and I've gotten excellent grades in college classes for all my papers. I typically do my work on the weekends, so basically if you send me a work on Wednesday do not expect it back necessarily on Thursday. On rare occasions, you will get it that quickly, but please remember I am only a teenager who still has to worry about getting straight A's or else. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
One thing I will eliminate from your writing is the hateful CONTRACTION. I will burn out every single one except when used in dialogue. Despise them. Ahem. I can correct passive voice if you want me to, and I will revise sentences that end with ugly little prepositions. Plus, I will help you rework just-plain awkward sentences, will help revise song-fics so that they are not half plagarized, and . . . well, whatever needs fixing, I'll be glad to help.

My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm still working on better understanding:
-Logical fallacies
-Syntax/advanced grammar
-Other random things I probably never heard of |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Severus/Lily stories are my favorites, though I do strangely adore Snape/Hermione. I am interested in starting a long term beta relationship with someone of a kaliber I can help with mild spelling/grammar problems without having to completely rewrite his/her stories. However, I also am willing to do single assessments as well. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
There aren't many things I won't beta. I guess the ones I hate most are Snape/Lucius . . . unless explained really well. Snarry (Snape/Harry) bugs me, as well. Actually, I don't like anything to do with the Malfoys very much. So yeah. I would prefer not to beta fictions that focus on the Malfoys. Any of them. Oh, NO MPREGS! I hate those; they contradict nature except when the male in question is a transvestite . . . which, in that case, he would not really truly be MALE, and thus it would be something completely different. How about just no transvestite stories . . . okay? That eliminates an entire genre of wholly unsavory material that burns my eyes. |
