Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm a 18 year old college student. I've been writing since I was about ten. I currently only have old, and in my opinion in desperate need of work, fanfictions posted on my account, but I hope to eventually change that and post some of my newer works. However for the time being I plan to devote my writing skills and time entirly to editing, as there is a possibility that I may decide to chose editing as my minor. I'd like to use this as an opportunity to get in practice, as well as decide if editing is something I truly enjoy doing. I have not yet edited any fan-fictions, but I do have editing experience from working with my high school literary magazine and from editing stories of friends. The only expectations I have of the writers are to give me a challenge, as well as something I can enjoy reading while editing. I am open to working with whatever the writer expects of me, as it is their story. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I have an eye for grammar and making sentences flow smoothly. Some people consider nit picking a bad thing, however, I consider it an asset. Beta's are meant to nit pick the small things, as well as the large ones. Also, please take note that I am blunt when it comes to critiquing. I do not sugar coat, so if you are loking for an ego boost you have come to the wrong beta. I have also taken 3 years worth of creative writing classes, my focus point being in editing. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I'm not an excellent speller and do rely heavily on spell check like many people in this day and age. I do realize that spell check can often make mistakes so I am attempting to better my own spelling, something I think being a Beta Reader will assist me in doing. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
There are very few things I won't read. If it's not listed under 'Not My Cup Of Tea' then it is safe to assume that I will read it. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I /WILL NOT/ beta sexually explicit fanfictions. I am not against doing mature fanfictions that are rated for violence, cursing, and other adult themes aside from intercourse. If a story does have a chapter or two that has this sort of content, I will consider working with the story, so long as it is agreed that the writer will find someone else willing to do those particular chapters. |
