Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'd like to think of myself as a pretty flexible beta. I'll do grammar checks, but I will also gladly give my opinion of a character/characterization, setting, plot, or a fic in general. I've beta-read for several people before, and am a bit of a perfectionist. I will beta-read Word, Works or Notepad documents. The corrections and/or opinions will be sent via email, to be used as you see fit. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Grammar nazi is no word for it. I can catch almost every slip of the keys you throw at me. Put in a comma instead of a period? I'll fix it. Text-block-of-doom plaguing your writing? I'll divide it up into workable paragraphs.
Description is also one of my strengths. I've written both florid and bare prose before, and so I know how to catch either one before it spirals out of control. If you're writing a het!romance fic and having trouble with adding sexual tension, fluff, or even a lime, I can help with that as well.
Finally, I am quite good with historical accuracy. Having been a reenactor for several years now and winning various awards on the topic, I can tell you everything from the names of various time periods to the width of ribbon that would be worn by Hessian women during the Revolutionary War. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I have often been called tactless and overly critical by my peers. Unfortunately, this also applies to my beta-reading. There may be times when I get irritated with certain parts of your fic, which will spark a comment that may make me seem like a bitch. Please don't take it personally. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
As with most betas, I'd love to to read anything interesting. Anything with an original plot, rarely used characters or ships, a new OTP ship, etc. Almost anything, so long as it sticks to the canon of the original work.
Doctor Who: I generally do New Series fics, as I did not have the good fortune to be born in time for the Original Eight. RoseTen fics are always good, as are het!OTPs, adventure fics, and crack!fics.
Earthsea Trilogy: I will read almost any fic from any of the Earthsea books, but am especially good at LebannenSeserakh, GedTenar and TehanuIrian friendship.
Chronicles of Narnia: I will read any het!fic from any of the books, so long as it sticks to canon.
Harry Potter: Again, almost anything. However, my best pairings are the ones established in canon, as well as RoseScorpius, NickGreyLady, DobbyWinky and TeddyVictoire.
Misc. Books and Movies: Girl With a Pearl Earring, Casi Casi, World War Z, The Zombie Survival Guide, Utopia

Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
I am not the best beta for songfics, poetry, or slash fics. I will not read certain types of limes and lemons, but as this often changes, contact me before assuming anything. Self-insertions and honest Mary Sues are right out, though parodies are welcome. Hardcore AUs are not within my realm of experience either. If you plan on writing a hundred-chapter saga, I'd be happy to beta every bit I can...just don't expect me to look over the entire fic in all its glory. |
