Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
As a reader, I'll take the time to read the story.I might graze over it a time or two, depending on length, but then go back through to read and make any corrections. It would probably have to be for a show or book that i'm interested in, so I could be a better judge.
To anyone interested: I like to PM the authors as well, to maybe get a better feel as to what it is that they're looking for. An opinion? Someone to read through a time or two?...Even if it's just someone to bounce ideas off of, which is fine as well. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
In writing, I love to dig into the characters a little bit. I like to sort of push the realms of what's 'expected', but at the same time keep the character doing things that he or she would do. I like reading fun, quirky, fluffy things. But at the same time, multi-chapter dramas or angst works perfectly.
If I'm a beta, I like to know the characters that I'm proofing/reading for. That said, I have strength in getting a feel for who they are, and whether or not they are too OOC. That being said, I also have strength in simply offering an opinion. I won't simply knock down an idea or refuse to beta simply because the idea is too out there. Sometimes, I find the best story is actually AU. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
As a writer and beta, sometimes I'll drabble on too far. When I'm writing, when I go back through to edit, sometimes I will add more than necessary, but then go back and change it later. Simply, I take ideas that I'm writing about and run.
However, as a beta, I guess my weakness is that I can become too attached to a story. I've read/beta-ed for a story before, that was going good, but then the author simply stopped all communication and stopped updating. If you want me to beta, I'll do it if I'm available, but you have to be as dedicated as I am. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
I'll beta for just about any genre, that being general, romance, angst, drama, family, etc.
I'm willing to work on just about any show/book, etc, but I have more expertise and knowledge in:
-Bones
-Grey's Anatomy
-Lost
-Gilmore Girls
-Twilight
That's about it, but I will work with other crime shows, or serials....I'm pretty much a TV person I suppose. |

Like I said, I'm willing to beta for just about anything, but I'm a little reluctant when it comes to Character Death. I don't mind too terribly, and while I've written a few myself, I don't exactly relish that idea. Especially if it's for a character I'm already attached to. |
