Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
I'm not going to change your work, I would never do that - because I would never have the... er, confidence? The only thing I will do is change words that need changing; take out an apostrophe; replace a comma; sort out your semi-colons and retrieve any lost colons.
I'm not going to add my own little touch to your story, because I think that's wrong. I think your story should be yours and yours alone - with your own unique voice. Of course, I will give you my opinion on certain aspects of it and how I think your voice works (as a good beta should) but I don't think it's my place to change it if I don't like it.
I tend to my opinion on things - if you want them. I have four categories:
Storyline
Style
Characterization
and Other stuff
I try not to be too boring, and I like having conversations so I'm not unapproachable. I don't have any expectations of you, just that you listen to my opinions with an open mind and try not to judge them too much, because I would never ever judge you on your writing. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I am good at picking out words that look like they're right - but aren't. E.g. loose is not the same as lose. I'm also a stickler for apostrophes. A real stickler. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I admit, I do have to look through work at least five times - because the first time I go through it I get a bit caught up with the story. The second time, I realise that I've missed out a couple of paragraphs and the third, fourth and fifth times are me cursing under my breath as I find out just how many times I've missed bits out. But I will never, ever let loose a story which has not been fully beta'd. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Romance, Humour, Drama, Hurt/Comfort, Friendship. Eh, feed me anything. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Like I said, pretty much anything. I'll beta it. It doesn't bother me. |
