One may choose one's friends, said Holmes, but not one's family. Just as well then that one member of the family redeems himself by bringing Holmes a case of murder with elements of the grotesque and supernatural in one of Watson's unpublished cases.

After three doctors have been either brutally murdered or kidnapped, a fourth potential target seeks out Holmes and Watson for assistance, bringing more mystery and intrigue with him than our duo may have bargained for. Takes place between STUD and SIGN.

Holmes faces what may be his most difficult case yet. Epilogue added.
