Even words which today have different meanings ("stuff") are used in their original context. Beautiful. What must it have been like for the dead Edmond to observe his beloved's son? I think you've captured that. What must he have felt in order to yet strike at him...? There are a couple of typographical issues that could be cleaned up, and the transition from God to Mercedes could be a little smoother, but overall this is well done. Thanks for posting.

The spookiness of it all, the sadness in his voice, the beautiful words used, flowing from his mouth freely, gushing out, punctuated with sighs and groans... Oops. Got carried away.
