I love this line: "He doubts the validity of my emotions." He really does, that meditating goof. The entire last paragraph was wonderful. This is great. Have you considered a companion piece, in Aoshi's POV?

it was incredibly fitting- very realistic, though at times in the anime it seemed *sightly* there was just an inkling more of hope. hm- this one of course wasn't as happy- but it fit, the song and then the tone of your writing matched perfectly. this was very well written- ^_^ and while i'll hope for happy smiley things, this was very good too. =) hope to see you post something soon!
