This is the best origins of Hiko fic I've ever read. Dark, violent, and tragic, is what I imagine would have created the 13th Master of Hiten Mitsurugi. You did a masterful job.

I've read this story multiple times, but never reviewed. I've decided to rectify that.

This is one of the most amazing RK stories out there. It's moving, and powerful, with sharp and beautiful writing. Hiko is one of my favorite characters, and I love stories that really flesh out his character and make him a whole person.

Gods, but you tell an excellent story.

You say they write themselves- don;t they all do that? I've found that the best ones move along with little effort by the aurhtor- for example, a charachter I've written had a lifelong disease and I didn;t know it until I was halfway though the story.

It's the little things I appreciate about it. Beginning with the fact that you played off of Hiko's accepting of Kenshin- even unwittingly. The fact that they buried the dead, well... it's a sentiment that really is just *right*.

I appreciate the truely pure *skill* you seem to have in writing- I'd say you have it, but by your own claim, you are far better than most, since your stories work their own plots out.

I`ve read this fic and also the Hikaru stories. It`s great to find another Hiko-obsessed that, unlike me, can writte and do it soooo well. The stories are great, just one little detail, now that you`ve left poor Hiko all alone and sad... I`ll just have to go marry him and have like 5 or 6 kids with him. It`s all your fault for treating him in such a mean way. In any case I hope to see more of your stuff published here soon

quite the jump through time. how old IS Hiko 13 here anyway? in the original timeline, Hiko was 43 whereas Kenshin's 28. lesse... which means that Hiko was 15 when Kenshin was born. add 8 years, then 23 when the big guy meets up with Shinta.

*torn between laughing hysterically and staring like a total idiot* the katana Hiko carries (well, both student and master) is called a shirazaya (white sheath). takes great skill to pull it out without injuring yourself since it doesn't have a tsuka (hilt).

so THAT'S where it came from!! *laughs* Hiko #12 sure rubbed off of Niitsu, using baka deshi!

Another great story; you're going to become my source for all excellent Hiko fics, you know.

I'm finding this story fascinating and I hope you choose to extend it past this one chapter. I'd like to see Kaukunoshin come into manhood and all.

Now, in the manga, didn't they identify him as "Kakunoshin Niitsu"? That would make him family name Kakunoshin and his given name Niitsu, I believe.

"Ah!!!" (hides behind couch, peeks out carefully, only her eyes showing) "Then what?" she asks, her voice a squeak.

*shudders* this really reminds me of how Soujirou ended up after meeting Shishio. "tsuyo kere wa iki, yowa kere wa shi" or "the strong survive and the weak die". when's Hiko Seijurou the 12th gonna roll around?
