"Contrast" is the word that leaps to mind. In fact, aside from the fact that they're so excellently written, you wouldn't know that these stories came from the same author. Jayne sounds like Jayne; Inara sounds like Inara. Wonderful use of the first-person narrator! |

Inara's emotional response to Cale's situation and his handling of it, as well as her interactions with Mal and Kalee at the end, are very true both to the characters and to the complexity of human feelings in general.
