Reviews For: A promise of doom
RavenLady 2006-03-09 . chapter 1
Happy birthday! I'm on the Silmfics list, and when I saw that it was your birthday I thought I might as well try to review this finally . . .

This is unique - I've never seen a fic dealing with this part of the story, and believe me, I've looked. Truly a beautiful piece. I really love the bit near the end - "the void that exists within himself" - that made me shiver. And as others have mentioned, Turin's urge to dig up Finduilas was brilliant, and quite a shock. The story of Turin is one of my obsessions, so thanks for this - these glimpses of him definitely give some insight. *bows*

A story like this is hard to write, because every character demands a certain degree of identification, and here we have a torn personality with a daunting darkness in his soul. But I think this vignette does succeed in showing us a little of what it must have been to be Turin.

Moody, and dark, but beautiful. Very well-written.

Great haunting atmosphere, I feel the pity for Turin here, mounting. Digging his hands into the soil to reclaim Finduilas seems a very Turin thing to do. Your quotations were very appropriate, well done =)

Thanks very much for writing this. I love how you managed to show us how all those thoughts about what could have been still haunt him, driving him to despair. There is such beauty to be found within the tragedy of Turin's life, and you have captured it very well. This was beautiful!

P.S. Happy Birthday, Tyellas (:

Moving, and also disturbing - especially the image of Turin burying his fingers into the earth and considering to dig up Finduilas. And Glaurung's presence is strongly felt, even though he doesn't appear.
While reading it, I was struck by the thought that part of Turin's doom seems to be that he never learns from his mistakes.

Well done!

How wonderful! I always love a good Turin-fic, and this certainly qualifies. There is a beautiful quality to his despair here. And although you do not take the blame from his shoulders, you still evoke pity for Turin, and a bit of awe... marvelous, marvelous.
