Beautiful. Very well-written and lots of detailed imagery!
Seriously Wrong 2003-02-27 . chapter 1
This is so beautifully written. You have captured the sadness so well that those who stayed behind must have felt. Wonderful images, of the empty, quiet streets of Tirion. The questioning of the wisdom of the Valar as we sometimes question our own God. It gave me chills, you did such a great job with this.

Lovely.
Everything the other reviewers said: Ingwe so wise and kind, and just someone whose arms you could cry in...And Amarie so brave and strong and her love was so deep...I think you conveyed that very well.

Very sweet. Great portrayal of Ingwe. With a ruler like that, it must not be so bad in Valinor.

That's a interesting new viewpoint on why Amarie chose not to leave with Finrod...

This is the first story I've seen with Ingwe! (I really must go read the Vanyar stories by WatcherChild...) Great characterisation: He's kind, wise, and all those things that a King should be.

I understand you want constructive critcism, but really, I can't find anything to constructively criticise! :)

Wow. I'm not sure what to say as far as constructive criticism, except that I had wondered why, exactly, Amarie chose to stay in Valinor. Did she never consider the possibility of coming along? (Of course, she might not have survived the Helcaraxe or whatever else, and almost certainly not the sack of Nargothrond...)

Anyway, the Silmarillion is understandably short of stories about the Vanyar, and it's nice to see one.

Ellipsis, this is absolutely lovely!

Ingwe is all that I ever imagined him to be - strong, wise, but still, well, human (for lack of a better word) to be able to related to his subjects. He is just so....perfect!! (can we say that I'm addicted to the point of obsession?) His words regarding the Valar, Noldor, and Morgoth are so true. How the Noldor could not have stayed, that too much unrest was in their hearts, how the Valar loved the Noldor as well, and how Morgoth betrayed the Noldor people.

Amarie is wonderful here too. I like how she fell in love with the city of Tirion - little details like that make my day. I must echo what one of your reviewers said, that she's a very independent and strong character - that she loved Finrod enough to let him go, that she was still loyal to her own people and the Valar to leave.

Thank you so very much for this wonderful story!!!

A wonderful and subtle story! (At some point I actually found myself reading it as a kind of sequel to Saying Farewell, and wishing I'd written it.)
Amarie is often criticized for not loving Finrod enough to follow him. But what I see here is a strong female character, one who is not wholly definied by her romantic feelings for a male, and who loved and knew him well enough to be able to let him go.
And Ingwe is great: by making him a stranger one can share tears with, you show why he is a worthy High King of all Elves.

That was beautiful, Ellipsis. I love the mysterious way in which you chose to start the story, leaving us to slowly discover who the character was by the clues you gave out as we read on. You captured very well the pain, anger, sorrow, of those who remained behind and lost so much. Amarie gives a different perspective of what they must have felt... I liked it very much. Great work!
