The USS INDIANAPOLIS (CA-35) transported the material for the LITTLE BOY to the island of Tinian, just before it was sunk at the end of July 1945 by a Japanese I-boat, en route to the Philipines.

What about the American preparations for the invasion of Japan, since they weren't sure whether the bomb would work?
