Reviews For: This Rose Without A Thorn
Frodo's sister 2007-12-07 . chapter 1
I like this story. You did a good job of describing Sam's thoughts about Rosie. He loved her from afar, but he was too shy to approach her. Also I like Sam and Rosie romance stories and Frodo and Sam friendship stories, but not Frodo and Sam slash stories.

Beautiful. You catch his inner thoughts from the movie scenes quite beautifully. Consider yourself added to my favorites for good cause! *I love it when I find a "good" Sam!*
Rosa Cotton 2003-05-29 . chapter 1
Oh, this is a perfect look at Sam's feelings for Rosie. *sigh* This was one of the first Sam/Rosie stories I read and have enjoyed reading it again and again. Great job! Would you ever consider writing more about Sam and Rosie?
Rose Cotton 2003-03-13 . chapter 1
I just discovered this vignette and Sam is my favorite character (check out the pen name) and I was like, oh! Swoon! Swoon! Yes, it's very sad that you and I don't own Samwise. May we have a sob-fest together? ;-)

This is ADORABLE! (Squeal!) I get too excited about Sam to review in a more calm and rational manner, but I'll try. Your opening quote was perfect: it set both subject and tone, as well as reinforcing how Sam listens to and depends on his father's words. Your movieverse interpretation is awesome. (I love the shot in the movie in which the mugs are passed to the hobbits, and Sam takes his and drinks without ever taking his eyes off Rosie.) You've done a great job of capturing Sam's bewildered adoration of her, his desire to be with her set against his feelings of unworthiness.

Note: I'm pretty sure that the fellow hitting on Rosie in the movie was Ted Sandyman. There *is* no Lotho Bracegirdle mentioned in the book. Lotho Sackville-Baggins is the son of Lobelia S-B, whose maiden name was Bracegirdle. As Lotho is a member of the gentry, he would most likely not be hitting on a country lass. Ted Sandyman is the son of the miller and is of the working class, like Sam and Rosie. And in the book, there are plenty of references to Sam and Ted having animosity to each other, though no outright references are made to Rosie's being a point of contention between them.

Now that I've restrained myself and given a fairly calm and rational review, may I swoon? SWOON SWOON SWOON! (Sorry. Just had to get that out.)

I'm off to read your Rosie vignette now! :-)

wonderful! i love it. It's good to see some sam-rosie stories, espesially from the movie, bc it shows how shy he was and such.

Which i really think they should have kept this scene in the movie, 1) because of the song and 2) because of the very sam rosie interaction. I mean (i haven't read ROTK yet but i've seen a pic or two from theonering.net) he comes back and they have the kid or something like that.

well i can see by the sign that my time is up. keep writing dear!

I loved this story. :) There are too few Sam and Rosie fics here. I love their relationship, espcially as you protrayed it. 322 days untill RotK!

Aww..this is so sweet! A cute little Sam/Rosie story! They are all too few here, especially compared to all the slash! Nice work. Hope you write more soon.

Ahhh, a sweet, short, and simple Rosie/Sam fic! What more could someone ask for? Was that really Lotho who was "sweet-talking" Rosie?
Sister Golden Hair 2003-01-27 . chapter 1
That was so sweet and sad and i loved it!!!!
Ashley 2003-01-27 . chapter 1
Thank you so much for that! It was so sweet, and I really wanted a fic to better describe that scene on the DVD (it's one of my favorites)! It was great, thank you!

God Bless,
Ashley

Ooh! I like it! Samwise the Poetical...
The Gothic Elf 2003-01-27 . chapter 1
Awwwww..sam shows his poetic side. Sombody has been watching their dvd too much i think, but it's a lovely story and extremeley touching. I think yuo've captured Sam's voice brilliantly, i can really see this in my mind's eye, thats exactly what it looked liek he was thinking and, as for Rosie, for someone who only has about 15 seconds screentime, her voice is very well potrayed also. :) :claps:
shirebound 2003-01-27 . chapter 1
This is wonderful. You've taken a tiny moment (for everyone but Sam) and shown it to us beautifully. (Would you consider a sequel? However did that shy gardener propose to her?)
