I'd be curious to see that article, just so I could retch all over it...I have to deal with that kind of ignorance all the time (and it's worse for those who are very familiar with the Japanese version, since the dub is already changed completely).
And yeah, Jou isn't supposed to be dumb, plus he's supposed to have a cool/sensitive voice. And Yuugi doesn't sound timid enough in the dub (yeah, he's a bit timid, but also very brave when he has to be). That suitcase dumbness was only in the dub, BTW. If you haven't seen the original, I suggest you download it or something, because all the dialogue is completely rewritten so that it's as shallow as and corny as they can make it (and is often about completely different things than in the original, or isn't even THERE in the original). They cut out heaps as well. The worst dubbing job I've ever seen.

Yeah, I just got that issue of TV Guide today too (same cover, by the way). I was pretty dissappointed in it...I also thought that their previous articles about Pokemon, and video games in general, were a little less than perfect...
This article was way to short, for a need to put it on the cover...It should have been longer, and a little more well thought out...This seems like a pretty good synopsis of it.
