I didn't like Yumi much in the anime because of her hard heartedness towards the fate of Kenshin, Sano, and the rest of Japan. It actually surprised me that she'd cradle Soujiro in her arms after Kenshin wounded him.

Your story explains a lot about her, the way she hides her tender feelings behind a facade of uncaring insults, the way Shishio sees through her so effortlessly and is amused by it all.

Loved the Yumi characterization both in context to Soujiro and Shishio.. The simple prose, pleasatly descriptive compliemented the fic greatly..
