Your knowledge of French is most accurate. The only real problem I have is that the word for brown is actually marron, not brun. 'Brun' is just used for hair--'marron' is the actual color.

I also don't get the occasional "Ma'amselle" you keep typing for Madame Belle's dialogue. Whenever I read it, I picture an American tourist who can't speak with a good French accent. (No offense to the people who travel.) Is it supposed to be some sort of dialect or is it something you find in badfics?
