2009-10-21 . chapter 11
This was absolutely epic!

I'm not up to my usual quest of commenting on stuff from plot-line to plot-line, except for how much I enjoyed the realistic characterisations here.

On the whole, a well plotted, tightly written and thought provoking piece. On one hand I liked how vague the future was, on the other I'm really interested in deviations from canon. But the story was essentially over, so I'm overall happy with the ending.

Thanks for writing!

Woah. Done and over with-- and for a moment, I thought I would have had to hate you, what with you going all about death and failure in the future, Wes dead... And Cordy who would have -failed- to save the day with the beacon. Urgh. But it was beautiful still, seemed real, intense. The jump for Doyle got to me. What a pretty future they created, too. So much happy ending, but you didn't rub that in. Which I appreciate. Otherwise, it would all seem too much, y'know? But we all want happy ends (and what could be more natural, after having been deprived of anything remotely happy by Joss Whedon... XD)

Cordy and Doyle are engaged. Of course they would be. *squee*

Oh, and I would like to compliment the complexity you have given to the Time Keeper. It was a really well-developped villain. I especially loved Cordy's interactions with him, which brought out the contradictions out of him-- and that's what makes us special, human, right? Apart from donuts, contradictions and faults are what makes us part of the world, right? So yeah. Good job with that.

Doyle was an awesome character. He was just so... open, I guess. You could read his face and fall for him. Plus, the accent.

Oh God. I'm going to an angsty place.

Going back to your story. Your very awesome story.

Man, I'd really like to see more of it. I get the whole "Done and over with, wrapped up and all" thing, but I think you did mention some ficlet connected to it? If so, please, please do try and write them? I'm starving for some believable CordyDoyle. (The way he looks at her. His eyes. URGH)

All in all... good work. Thanks for the read.

I'm impressed. Not only is this story very, very well written, it's also very smart. I love time travel stories for what they mean-- one person confronting the world of before, facing what he put behind, what he once was. But you bring a new, nice depth to the time trip rules and paradoxes. Never read much about them, you know? People just say "Oh, be careful not to say anything, it could mess up the future", and that ends there. Using Fred to bring intelligence into it was neat.

All that time you spent working on it? Definitely paid off. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm itching to read next chapter, and the one after, and thus till the end.

*gives thunderous standing ovation, whistles, throws rose petals under your feet whereever you walk from this day forward* O M GAWD this is fantastic. Brilliant. Beautiful!

I've been grieving Doyle for nearly ten years now...and Glenn for just over a month since I only found out about his death on the six year anniversary. Needless to say learning about it reopened the wounds for me. I ditched watching Angel after seeing "Hero" (telling other viewers to let me know if they brought Doyle back because I'd never watch it again unless they did) so I wasn't part of the fandom when Glenn passed. Apparently no one aside from those active in the online community were made aware since everywhere I look people are just finding out about it.

Thank you so much for writing and sharing this, I have to admit you had me terrified for a little while there that I'd been lured into reading a fic that would come to an 'it was meant to be - deal with it' ending. Like edge of my seat, biting my nails, cursing at my laptop and threatening it with violence if that was where this story ended. *wipes sweat from brow* THANK YOU for not breaking my heart all over again. This was fantastic and I'm so happy to have found it.

You win at life ;) You have my extreme appreciation (and fervant prayers that the whisperings of Cordelia/Doyle love will return to you for some future one shots or something).

I know you wrote this a long time ago, but I am only finally getting around to watching Angel now.. and this was just SO good. I loved every word, and miss Doyle. Thank you for sharing what was obviously a true labour of love :)

A friend directed me over here, telling me this was the best Doyle story on the web...IT IS. That was absolutely lovely, thank you for writing it.

I read this story ages ago and loved it, but didn't bookmark it in any way - for some stupid reason. Now, rewatching Angel season one and mourning Doyle all over again, I came looking for fic - and rediscovered this.

Just as striking and dark and hilarious and irresistible as the first time. I could not stop reading.

Fave-ing it this time, so I can come back more easily. Thanks for a fabulous story.

I wouldn't typically read a Cordelia centered story but this one had me hooked from beginning to end. Excellently written and a read well worth the time!

Wow.
Yeah, I'd say 'Wow' pretty much covers it.
Seriously, if they'd ever ACTUALLY done a 'Doyle resurrection' story, I somehow doubt they could have made it HALF as powerful as you did this one.
All of Cordelia's reactions to the situation she found herself in were brilliantly described. From the moment she realised that she had been transported back to when Doyle was alive, to that brief moment after her near-death with the Beacon when she thought that she hadn't changed anything, I REALLY felt what she was feeling when those events took place.
Her shock and joy at finding Doyle alive, her awkwardness at trying to figure out a way back without revealing too much before she was ready, her grief when she thought she'd lost the first person to see her as more than just the cheerleader...
It was all there, and it was all brilliant.
And the full scale of Wolfram & Hart's plot with Angel in the end... driving him to despair to conceive a child that they could use to bring about their apocalypse?
To say that is one of the most evil things I ever read is a serious understatement; evil is not MEANT to be patient enough to wait for one SPECIFIC event to happen!
OK, so the Mayor waited a hundred years to Ascend; at least he knew WHEN he'd get the chance to do anything, even if he didn't know the specific details about what would happen when it did.
Talking of time, I found the idea of the Time Demon to be a particularly interesting concept, and the addition of the 'IWRY' references- one of my all-time-favourite eps, I might add; one of those great episodes that can make you smile even as it leaves you in tears- only added to my appreciation of the story.
And as for that brief glimpse of the alternate timeline Future Cordelia created by leaving those notes for her past self...
Any chance you could do something looking at the specifics of the changes she made at some point? Because I have to admit, I would DEFINITELY like to see what kind of a beating Wolfram & Hart took now that Angel and his team were armed with knowledge from the future...
Would they have even REALISED what was happening until the end?
If Angel Shanshued, I somehow doubt it.
There's just one problem I have with this story; the Time Demon's comment that there's no such thing as 'alternate universes'.
It's a minor detail, I know, but if alternate universes don't exist and there's simply versions of people according to the timeline they exist in, how could Vamp Willow have come through to our reality back in 'Dopplegangland'? I mean, since Willow never WAS that version of her- what with Anya's necklace having been broken and that timeline having never been created in the first place-, it shouldn't have been possible to summon her using the Time Demon's 'rules' of temporal mechanics...
And that is just an example of why I think about these things WAY too much and should just enjoy the story at times; it's a relatively minor detail in the grand scheme of things, and it does VERY little to detract from my enjoyment of the story.
Once again, a FANTASTIC bit of writing; keep up the good work!

OMG OMG OMG OH MY GOD!
This is just...in a word...AWESOME!
I love it! I more than love it!
This is deffinitely one of the bestest fics I've ever read! Really! It's just so...wonderfully perfect (I'm not sure if that combination of words is gramatically correct but I don't really care either).
You know that for a second there I thought that history would really repeat itself. That Doyle would end up dying for some reason or another. But not only he didn't die but the past Cordelia managed to change Everything with the leads left by the future one before she 'died'.
It's just terrific!
My congratulations for your work, I really enjoyed reading it.

Just found this fic after watching "Hero", and I must say, although I had no idea what was up with the 'uptime' scenes (not having got that far yet), I heartily approve of what you did to the 'downtime'. Fav'ed!
