I've finally got around to reading this story! As far as it's gotten, anyway, with the revised version. And, this being LR, and me being rather obsessed with LR, I can go on a rather obsessive review.
First thing - "The child continued to ravenously devour his ration of bread in a manner that was alarmingly similar to a very desperate wrag." Bit of a typo; "wrag" should be "warg." Moving on.
As of the first chapter - I'm not sure how far you've gotten - the obvious AU element is that Aragorn was not brougt to Rivendell at age 2 after Arathorn was killed in the companion of Elladan and Elrohir (Celebrian of Imladris, whoever you are, you were right), where he could be raised in secret as Estel. I'm assuming that Aragorn was in the Angle at the time, because there's really no where else for him to have been (and if you don't know what I'm talking about, go off and slap me). And Gilraen brought him to Rivendell from there, "there" being between the Bruinen and Mitheithel, the Mitheithel being 300 miles east of the Shire. (Thank you, Michael Martinez, for having all the references already so I don't have to look anything up.)
OK, so you're AU and probably not the obsessive purist that I am, but looking at it from my obsessive purist point of view: something happens to Gilraen whilst she and Aragorn leave for Rivendell - death most likely; she's the wife of a Ranger and could probably track a little kid if need be - and with some canon bending, making him slightly older, he may have been able to get by himself. May. Highly unlikely, but then again, he's Aragorn, so who knows?
I like your characterization of Aragorn; reminds me a bit too much of your Harry for my liking, but a good characterization nonetheless. I'd think of other ways to encorporate his Numenorean descentage into his character once Mr. Story progresses a bit. And Legolas has an ample characterization as well... Perhaps could be a little more distinctly elvish, but it's hard to establish that in the circumstances. Elvish characteristics are, more or less, wise and silly at appropriate times, and this isn't the appropriate time to be wise -or- silly.
Right. Looking forward to seeing more. =)

Oh you evil, evil mare. The first LOTR fanfic I try, and you haven't finished it! *hits Neu* Gawd, that is so not right.
Other than that, interesting story. Doesn't seem like anything anyone else would come up with, and your way of telling it is unique. *applauds* Apart from a load of spelling mistakes and typos, it rocks.
