 Kristin 2004-01-19 . chapter 1 That was lovely :) |
Bookworm85 2003-12-24 . chapter 1Aww, cute. I love sweet stories like this. And it has a moral! I love the line: one should never apologize because one loves. Legolas' mother was done very well too. |
Lutris 2003-11-06 . chapter 1 the story is very touching, I love it! especially the relationship between Thranduil and Legolas |
FadedOutline 2003-10-27 . chapter 1Aw it brought tears to my eyes and that does not happen often you know. The love, and there arne't many where Thranduil exhibits so much emotion over legolas.
SO SWEET!

James8 2003-06-05 . chapter 1Bloody hell, sorry I meant to review a lot sooner but I am terrible at that. Sorry again. I really love and enjoy your stories. This one particularly has become a favorite of mine. There is a lot of depth and feeling to your work. It is enjoyable reading and hope you come up with something else soon.

VladimirsAngel 2003-05-06 . chapter 1*applauds* A beautiful, beautiful vignette. A wonderful snapshot back in Legolas-history. These words in particular: "Nay, nin dem mîr, one should never apologize because one loves."
And, of course, the whole of Legolas's letter to Thranduil is full of the same emotional power. Had me spellbound. You've a talent for generating a feeling of nostalgia and, at the end here, a real sense of the threat that permeates the LOTR books. Very well done, Patty! *bows* May there be many more!

Dragon-of-the-north 2003-03-31 . chapter 1A beautiful story - and it was good you put the song only at the end, for the story worked well without it.
I liked the way you linked the events of Legolas' childhood to the quest of the fellowship, and to my mind, you portrayed the characters involved (including Legolas' OC mother) very well...
I've only got one question - why does Thranduil scare you? I mean, you don't seem to be of the opinion that he's a bad guy at heart - so what's wrong with him in your eyes? ;-) |
Ainaechoiriel 2003-03-31 . chapter 1That was beautiful. The flashback threw me at first, but in the end, it worked beautifully. I actually cried a few tears (at work, no less) and the song at the end really sealed that deal. I don't usually like song fics much, but this one worked. It helps that you put the song at the end, not sprinkled throughout the story.
The characterizations were very good and I loved the relationship between Legolas and each of his parents, and of course between Thranduil and his wife. Legolas's letter is just like him--as I like to think of him. Light and yet not unaware of the darkness. A little humorous, but noble and wise throughout.
Thank you. |
DaveRocks 2003-03-30 . chapter 1Wow...that's all I can say. Wow.
We really have a lot in common. I too love Nickel Creek and have thought before that their music was incredibly special, like something other-worldly. And the fact that they have a song named "The House of Tom Bombadil" is really awesome. They must be LOTR fans too. I truly enjoyed this story...I think I shall print it out so I can read it often.
You have a wonderful gift with writing, and I hope you continue to bless us with your creations!

Fadesintothewest 2003-03-30 . chapter 1I loved your story. I too love to write Thranduil as a loving father, and your all too short story conveys this beautifully. Family is a beautiful thing for the elves after all! |
Kirixchi 2003-03-30 . chapter 1This was truly beautiful. I LOVE Thranduil, and it is so refreshing to see him as a loving, concerned, decent father for a change!
You employed your vocabulary to great effect. The Sindarin was not distracting in the least, and it showed that you took care to research canon before you began to write. I thought that the incident you described was very insightful. As the mother of a young child myself, I recognized both the tendency of small children to get into these sorts of messes, and the pain that a parent goes through realizing that hurt can be soothed, but not completely taken away. Finally, it was tied together nicely in the end.
I look forward to reading more of your stories! |
LOTRlover 2003-03-30 . chapter 1What a loving family! This is a beautiful story, PP. Thranduil is stern and, yes, somewhat hasty in assuming that Legolas is going to his royal chambers to cause trouble, but he certainly shows himself to be a loving, caring Ada.
Edlothiel is a sweet OC, regal and yet motherly, and worthy of her husband's and son's love. And little Legolas is a cutie, so brave in the face of pain. He reminds me of my own grandson, who is six.
Adult Legolas's letter is a fine balance between youthful idealism and reasoned awareness of what he's getting into.
And last but not least, I wish I could grow Egoloth in my own garden. 8)
