Interesting concept. I think the story would have been better if you didn't have the possible future in it though. Seemed a little forced with the great 'possibilities' that the taken lives had. That's my constructive criticism.

Now for my venting. I wanted to add something about the previous review. I found it grating so I can't but add this. While history the war and conflict has shown to bring about advances, peace by no means brings stagnation and decline. This is more than idealism. This is shown anthropologically as well. Opinions like that aren't true just because you make them like statements. Even as a realist, I found it too arrogant to let go.

An interesting story, well written.
An interesting premise, in the special duty of the goddess'.
A foolish and naive sentiment in; "Let's hope that people will learn to live together in peace so the suffering can finally stop."
Peace is subjective, and history has shown that those nice, well-meaning, persons that struggle for their view of "peace" often have the most blood on their hands.
Also, it is war and conflict that build society and civilization as we know it, peace brings stagnation and decline.

It's incredible how good some people are at messing up other peoples lives.

You really caught the whole thing about lives wasted by the wars of the world. Good job.

This was well written, and you are right: war is a horrible thing. In these days we must remind ourselves that what we do in Iraq must be done - in the words of Martin Luther King Jr. "injustice anywhere is a threat to freedom everywhere" (the verbage may be wrong but the message is right). Remember that our hand was forced by a foolish few; now we have no choice other than to see this to its conclusion. May God keep you and yours in these dark days.

Your not the only one who hopes for this war to end soon, but I suppect it will be a while unless we send in Microsoft. ;)
