Problem is, I can't tell whether it's a cliffie of a oneshot, or an edge-of-the-chair beginning of a longer story?

Either way, I liked your characterizations, particularly Harry and Hermione. Ron is a prat, as usual. :) And I have to respect any author who writes about Holmes too. He's awfully Snapey, don't you think? Or maybe Snape is rather Holmesian. Either way, it's an interesting start. If you do continue it, I'd love an email letting me know. Thanks.

Considering the date that you wrote this and how little was known about Snape's character at that time, this is wonderfully written... and with such consideration for Hermione's age, inexperience, and her lack of relationship with Snape. Well done.

I found this very, very well written. I love how you are able to fiction-multitask; you've got Harry and Hermione carrying on their own little conversation, but Ron is still talking on in the background, while Dumbledore is awaiting his owl -- sorry, raven -- everything just fits together so smoothly.

This made the little hairs at the back of my neck stand on end - from this little line to the end.
