K Patrick 2003-11-16 ch 7,	abuseAnother great example of wonderfully deep writing. Rio's letter. A classic piece, though it waxes just a little bit sappy in the middle. And this chapter brings up something else. The almost complete abscence of Joe and Ken in kale's work. I don't know if he didn't like them (unlikely, he did Davis) or just couldn't get a read on them, but they're almost entirely absent from anything of substance in all the books.
K Patrick 2003-11-16 ch 6,	abuseHven't mentioned this yet, T.K.'s interactions with the crests. Outstanding bit of creativity, like a mentor to a new hero. It finally becomes clear why in book 7, if people couldn't figure it out before then, but it is a great read the whole way through.
K Patrick 2003-11-16 ch 5,	abuse'Squirt.' Now I know kale was the first to use this ToA from Matt to T.K. and I just love it. Now everyone does, but back in '01 it was he who started it. One of the many great gifts that kale left us before he had to go away.

Matt kind of gets killed in Dawning, Cody has the kendo match whoopin' in book 6, but I think by descriptives Izzy got it worse than either of those two. Dunno...

Tai beats him, Matt kind of beats him, and obviously bears him the most ill will, and T.K. ultimately beats him, but I think his archfoe is really Rio. She rarely out and out confronts him, but she's always in on his defeat.

He's just as evil and brilliant as before, but it seems kind of muted when he's serving under someone willingly. He gets better when he's in control like book 2, or striving for it like in book 6.

Wanderer14 2003-06-26 ch 7,	abuseGreat, great heart-wrenching ending to this fic. Riato is probably only 3rd to Takari and Takuri for great couplings. Matt and Rio work so well together, and it amazes me that any writer could so successfully meld a canon character to an original one. But I guess this is kale we're talking about, and if anyone could pull it off it would be him.
