No, you chose the harder way, and even though she and Toby do engage in hurt/comfort, it's for far more compelling and realistic reasons. Nicely done.

That was just what I needed to read: Thank you for putting my feelings into CJ's head and making her run with them ;) I agree with most of the elements of your story; removing empathy from the dictionary, twist of fate putting me into a comfortable life, and 90% of the world somewhere else... Yeah. Except I'm never so good at articulating it as you were in this story. Good Job!
