| songspinner 2005-03-07 ch 1, | abuseHow marvelous! I loved the emotion in this one, and the growing friendship between the two. Seeing Pip as a dad was fun, too. The dialogue was quite true to character, I thought, and had a realistic flow to it. Heh...I had to explain the word mathom to some fifth graders the other day and they all got the giggles. :) |
| brachan90 2004-04-15 ch 1, | abuseThis was a wonderful story, Starlight! Judging by the date of publish, I'm guessing it must be getting close to your next birthday, lol. I really liked how Pippin changed his idea about Mathoms because of Faramir - hopefully he may pass that on to his own Faramir. I always enjoy a good Peregrin/Faramir story (be it Faramir the Steward or Faramir the Hobbit). Thank you for sharing this lovely gift :) |
| Gypsie Rose 2003-07-30 ch 1, | abuseI have read this thought-provoking story several times and enjoyed it very much, so I suppose it's time I wrote you a review! There's some lovely description and much to ponder here. As a confirmed Faramir fan, I really enjoyed this glimpse into his depths. You've also done a fine job of showing us Pippin's often-neglected serious side. "I had helped to save a treasure"--so well put. I also enjoyed the peek at Pippin as a father at the end. I forgot to mention in my review of "Duty" that I also enjoyed how the two stories tie together by way of the toy soldier. --Rose |
| Pipkin Sweetgrass 2003-06-15 ch 1, | abuseThis was beautiful! I do so love Faramir, though I confess I'm a staunch Boromirist, and Pippin if my very favorite hobbit. Do write more, and I do treasure this mathom. |
| Ainaechoiriel 2003-05-31 ch 1, | abuseThank you! What a lovely gift! And now I know what a "mathom" is. I have read LOTR (twice) but forgot this bit and I'd seen the word bandied about on the Henneth_Annun list and was very confused. Now, thanks to you, I'm not. |
| shirebound 2003-05-30 ch 1, | abuseThis is truly marvelous. You give us such an insightful, and beautifully written (book canon!) glimpse into Faramir's true being, through the eyes and heart of someone who has learned to see very clearly indeed. I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated this wonderful vignette. |
| Xena 2003-05-30 ch 1, anon. | abuseI enjoyed this story a lot, very well written. Lots of Pippin's thoughts, you delved deep into it, and it all makes sense. You showed Faramir and Pippin's friendship well, I loved their discussion on mathoms. Also loved the toy soldier, it was a great symbol. Really great story, I really liked it! :P |
| Hai 2003-05-30 ch 1, anon. | abuseThat was so cute! I hope Faramir was happier after Pippin's visit. How could you not be? You did a wonderful job writing Faramir (both of them) I'm often find Faramir (son of Denethor) an intriguing character, thank you for a glimpse into how you see him. Thank you! |
