2009-11-12 . chapter 3
You are seriously underestimating ol'Narly, he would consider it anti-climatic to just destroy the world. Kill off all the heroes in ironic ways while all the time pretending to be a good-guy, on the other hand, is exactly like something he would do. You gotta make people suffer, and STOP over-using the Haunter, the point of Nyarlothotep is that he(and I use the term "he" very loosely) has many different forms.

Taken on it's own, without knowledge of the Mythos, this is shaping up to be a very good story!

A superb story, I look forward to finishing it. A fact you would have been well to mention, though: In almost all ancient cultures, arson was considered the ultimate crime, punishable only by public execution. This was because a murderer killed only one person, but an arson fire had the potential to spread and burn down an entire city. In fact, the fire that damaged the Library in Julius Caesar's time started in the dock areas and then burned down most of Alexandria. So to set Alexandria alight was even more drastic a solution, to the Romans, than you portray it as.

Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fthagn!
The only thing I didn't like was that you didn't manage to get Wilbur Whateley or his nameless twin brother into this whole thing (they happen to be my fav. HPL characters)

I love Lovecraft and stumbling upon this story just made my day. Not enough Buffy/Lovecraft fanfic in the world. Great stuff!

aw ... Cordy and Dennis and keeping watch over Faith. You do realize i will need more of your writing when i get to the end of this ... gotta go find out what else you've done.

This is ... brilliant. And I don't throw compliments on most days.

If all you had written was the story of the Pharos lighthouse and the fall of Alexandria, you would be one heck of a writer. You catch all the fine elements of the mythos and intertwine it with history and the xover ... i am impressed! (and it's not just because i'm a dragon and the Shining Trapezohedron is a pretty shiny thingy ...) This is one of the best stories i've read here and very well written. There was a typo i spotted, but i've forgotten where it was ... too caught up in the story. Onward.

"Like a bizarre pack of paparazzi getting the first pictures of Hell", hee, nice.
Hunter is alive, that was a surprise. So was Willow and Tara not being able to close the void.
Spike's all-consuming interest in the TV was funny.
Faith only digs guys? Sure she does:)
I liked what happened to the void after the crystal is smashed. Short but good description.
The burning front of the building falling down is very cool.
Giles having to drive all around to get to his place. Nice, realistic touch.
This fic had some truly inspired moments and stunning scenes.

I love how Xander's arm goes up for doughnuts:). Dennis! That was unexpected. The stuff with the book was gripping. The description of the Ancient Ones' word was great. Good use for the Initiative soldiers. The firing of their weapons sounds cool as does the ending to the Quadrangle scene. There is so much going on. Way to pack in the excitement. Go Maggie! I mean, ahem. Having her turn into vapor was nice. The explosion ruled! Nyarlethotep paragraph right after it is wonderful. Riley talking to Headquarters was really good. Yey! This rocked!

Faith being taken over was chilling, her head disappearing, ek! Nice work. I like all the preparations.
"This ain't 'Days of Our Lives' ya know." Hee. I really like the bond between Buffy and Faith here.
"It's you! . . . You are the one, not Buffy. You are the one . . . who'll save the world!" Just what Faith has always wanted to hear. The way Nyarlethotep disintegrated was nice. It is hard to believe that wasn’t the big fight. It totally could have been.

I love the Faith section. She is so in character when she talks to Buffy. And the scary " . . and . . . who . . . are . . . you . . ." is still scary :) The atmosphere is just perfect. The mayor’s appearance is definitely creepy. The encounter with Faith is really good. Very exciting.
I liked the part with Riley getting authorization. I thought it was really well done. It had exactly the right feel to it.

Great story. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Ya know, the other thing you "got right" was Willow becoming a Guardian (see 'Chosen').

And we have title! OK, I know it was mentioned before but it gave me a little bit of a thrill to have the title materialize like that :) The images were beautiful, especially the wind. I love Faith’s attitude here. The anger and lashing out are so true to character, not to mention that they feel very real. The wall thing is effective and Faith’s reaction to Buffy’s voice is so touching. The whole section is very good. And drunk Willow is funny.
