Ah, Maedhros is most amusing. I suppose he has a healthy attitude towards life, even if it does seem contradictory. Raiding the pantry... :) And the idea that any respectable elf should've died and fled to Mandos is an interesting one. Of course, this was before a lot more people were captured and made thralls of Morgoth, but that's another matter. I do so enjoy seeing Maedhros struggle to readjust and doing his damnedest to do it _his way_. That is just so very Feanorian, and especially true for Maedhros. Good for him. :)

Good but your tense construction seems a bit off. I like the picture of Maedhros raiding the pantries.

As usual, your Maedhros manages to be simultaneously annoying, sarcastic, wise, blind, and somehow appealing despite himself. Of course, his decision to yield the Kingship to Fingolfin belies his claim that by surviving the torments of Morgoth, he's been rendered too base to lead his people. If he WERE as base as he thinks he is, he'd have hung on to the crown regardless of the cost to himself and to others - that's certainly what an Orc would do in his stead. But it figures he wouldn't be capable of seeing that.

Very nice fic, as always!

Hilarious and disturbing. And it gave me a few things to gnaw on. "Any decent elf would have died". This actually made me shiver. I hadn't looked at it this way yet, that the Noldor might see Maedhros's stubborn will to survive as anything but admirable, and that they might be offended by his maimed and tainted presence among them. *sigh* Is there no end to this poor guy's suffering?

Absurdity gravitating towards poignancy. You do it every time, don't you, suspending us between laughing and crying. And full of brilliant remarks again: 'My black speech has come on in leaps'. The ambiguity of opposing thumbs. Healers that can go to Mandos (to heal phantom injuries?). 'There were no nights in Tirion' (has Maglor adapted too well?). And I can't help liking this Maedhros who prefers living as an orc to being dead as an Elf, though I don't think he's very good at either.
Great dialogue; thank you!

p.s. And yes, Feanor would experiment. I suppose he also had a penchant for anything flambee.

How do manage to let a little humour light up a story about Maedhros when you write him as disturbed as this? I can definately understand why he calls himself half Orc, and that he can't he just doesn't have the strength and trust in his own actions anymore.
I enjoyed your discription of cutting cheese and opening jars one handed, and now Ithilwen knows how Maedhros opens all the large soda bottles at her house!!
Feanor's cooking, did you have to mention it? Maglor has been reading this over my shoulder and he shuddered. Apparently Feanor's cooking was pretty bad, and you never knew if you'd pick metal flakes out of your dinner or not. Maglor says that's why he learned to cook, so Feanor wouldn't!
