kingmaker 2003-09-26 . chapter 1Aw, a nice little story. It's hard to imagine Eowyn (or Eomer, for that matter) ever showing this much emotion, but they probably did back when their parents were alive. The different riding styles are pretty funny- Eowyn calling the Gondorians silly is a particularly smart stroke of irony. Good stuff. |
anolinde 2003-07-06 . chapter 1Okay, my review probably sucks. I was reading your other ones and they were saying things about the climax and capturing the characters. All I really have to say is that I loved it, especially Eowyn's speech. I could vividly picture her as a young child and desperate to go riding. Keep up the good work! |
Dragon-of-the-north 2003-06-16 . chapter 1Aw! What a wonderful, cute story! :-) *beams happily* And it is a story with Éowyn in it! :-) If you have not already guessed, Éowyn is quite the only female character in LOTR that I liked rather well when reading the books...
You really have a way of writing convincing stories about children - they always seems so real and cute! :-)
I liked the beginning, with little Éowyn bouncing in her mother's arms - a Rohirric child indeed, she even likes riding when there is no horse to be had... ;-)
I also liked your subtle description of Théodwyn's behaviour - while trying to respond to her children, she is all concentrated (and probably excited) herself, hardly noticing Éomer's playing with her ring...
The little rhyme Théodwyn sang for her daughter made me smile... It is just so cute! :-) Pretty mount and spear, indeed... Even without the names, you could tell that this is a Rohan story. ;-)
Éomer's wish to go riding at once was so typically child-like once again - quite oblivious to his father's weariness, he only thinks of the wonderful, exciting things that they can do now that Daddy has returned (and yes, the terms "mama" and "daddy" work very well - they felt very much all right, so do not worry about that :-)).
I love that Éowyn wants to ride, too - a very determined young lady already... It is convincing that this is what she might have been like as a child! :-)
The gradual move towards the climax - first Éowyn riding on her brother, then both children riding on their father, then all the three of them riding on a horse - was nicely done and made me smile many times... So cute! :-)
And, of course, little Éomer must pout... He is a soon-to-be warrior, after all, and if his little sister is there with them, they will not have any fun... LOL!
I was shaking in mirth when the different riding styles were described... The silly Gondorians were wonderful, but the other ones also were so hilarious! *still laughing*
And, once again, this is the kind of story that leaves the reader with a warm, contented feeling... The best! :-)
You have managed to create a precious little jewel once again, mellon nin, and now I will be getting on your nerves, trying to talk you into writng more Éowyn stories... ;-)
WONDERFUL once again! :-) |
daw the minstrel 2003-06-16 . chapter 1What a great story! You have captured the personalities of these three and so many of the details of being children of the Rohirrim and just plain children. Eowyn bouncing on her mother's hip, for instance, and their general joy at their father's return. And the different ways of riding at the end were marvelous. Very ingenious. |
