I really liked the historical touches in your story - like the mention of Captain Sagara having a wife and child and the fact that he was from the samurai class.

You've made Kaoru wonderfully proactive during the Bakumatsu too. I like how you worked in mention of the scene from the OAV where Takasugi falls from his horse (Watsuki took a few liberties with that one. Takasugi actually died at home, presumably on his futon).

Giving Kenshin and Kaoru a connection that predates their meeting over the false battousai incident was unexpected, but good.
