Nobody writes about Daeron. I wondered what happened to him. Deborah Judge wrote something about Maglor that was similar. They both wander and sing. Write more, please.

Ah, what a beautiful story! When I first read the Sil, my instinct was Daeron=sneaky, jealous, bad person. Then, when I thought about it, it became poor, misunderstood person, who's fault was not that he hated, but that he oved too much. Oh, I wish he could have some release.

Excuse, I now have to go beachcombing for elves.

That was sad, and yet very peaceful at the same time. You yourself are a very gifted storyteller.

How sad that he had to leave them. At least he had their friendship and he gave little Niphredil a beutiful gift to remember him by. I do hope that they met later.

Now I'll have to read the Silmarillion. I've started it twice, and the second time I got to, I believe, "Of Beleriand and it's realms". I must admit that about all I can remember of it is how I wanted to scream because I was so bored with the minute descriptions of elvish emmigration. Perhaps I stopped right before it really got interesting.

I noticed that you said that most people simply consider Daeron a traitor of some sort, so maybe when I read about him, I'll be able to judge him more fairly.

Wow, it was a lovely ending, a bit sad, and a bit happy. ^^ I love this story, I immensely like when authors give voice and life to characters that seldom appear in fics. excellent job!

So he had found some happiness in the end though telling of things which made him sad.

I think the children will never forget this meeting with Daeron but also the other who had only heard his voice will remember it.

It is so sad that he is damned to wander and can´t even find some peace in the west. But maybe he stays because Middle-Earth keeps him connected with his past with Luthien and he is afraid that when he goes this connection is cut.

I´m glad that you will write another story with him.

Lovely :) I really enjoyed reading this and will be waiting for other stories about Daeron. This is just different from everything that flows around ff.net these days and I am glad of it!

That I never particularly liked Daeron was probably just a gut reaction to the tale of Beren and Luthien. This story explains him without entirely exonerating him and turns him from an unpleasant stage prop into a round character. Of course he must have been more than a voice to sing and bear tales, and you succeed in dispelling some of the shadows obscuring him, in more than one sense of the word.
'Daeron' must have been one of those foresighted mother-names, for in the Silmarillion his shadow does fall across Luthien - and here in your tale he appears almost literally like a shadow from the distant past.
A lovely story, elegiac and full of the fairytale-like atmosphere that I associate with the tale of Beren and Luthien more than with any other Silmarillion story. It makes me wonder: are we ever told who exactly composed the Lay of Leithian?

Oh my...wow.

Tree, this is beautiful! Dearon was one of my favorite Elves, and I 've always wanted to read a story about elves among men even after they have forgotten them.

I need to keep reading this!

This is really sad. This poor lonely singer can't even stay with these children. He has to keep wandering.

A beautiful ending. I'm glad he found joy, if only for a while.

I really love the sense you create of him knowing it will cause his heart more pain if he speaks with these children and relive such times yet at the same time craving their company. There's such a poignant feeling of him being torn in two.

The childish curiosity is so well done and I love the way Niphredil in all her innocence touches him so deeply. I felt so bad for them, though, in those few moments where they felt true sorrow!

The ending was wonderful, and it's such a beautiful thought that he gave Niphredil this gift that obviously meant so much to him.

Oh yeah, and I know it wasn't your intention but I'm feeling slightly angry with Luthien right about now!:)
