Wow. Superb, amazing. You have an amazing skill with action scenes - as with fear, and angst, and darkness, and despair, and determination, and everything else contained within this fic.

I'm in awe, really.

This has to be one of the best Firefly stories I have ever read. Your description of the crew and how they each handled the situation was unbelievably believable. I love how, when the time came, each crewmember truly realized what was important and was willing to make the sacrifice to protect the others. Jayne's protection of River was incredibly powerful. As was Kaylee's ability to shake off enough of her shock to help Jayne when he needed it. River's constant protection of Jane was very sweet and very understandable. I love how Zoe, despite the fact she's one of the worse off, still has the strength to crack a funny comment or two and still comfort her husband. And Wash's comment on how usually the crew would get annoyed if anyone else tried any bonding really stuck out. Simon, Inara, and Book's courage were very consistent with their characters and quite amazing. As was Mal's realization that his reason for living was not just Serenity but it's crew. My only complaint about this is the ending. I wish there was more to it. Like how he plans to get Serenity back, or what's gonna happen with everyone on the crew. Other than that, great, great story!

Absolutely excellent. I am new to this fanfic stuff but have been completely caught up in it since I found it and this is one of the best I have read so far. Keep up the good work and hope to catch more of your work soon.

I'm so glad I found this story again. I read it a while back & didn't have time to review but I couldn't pass up the chance to say how genuinely fantastic I thought this was. It was so true to the series. Everyone spoke in character & the pacing was truly a work of genius. I'm a sucker for some angst, especially when it is physical & you gave it to all the right characters without getting too sentimental. Mixing the time frames was a really good idea to get the reader involved with the story immediately & you carried it off perfectly.

Seeing that this story is entitled 'Chapter 1', does this mean there were plans for a sequel? I think the whole thing ended beautifully, but I'd never say no to some more of this quality writing.

I can see her possibly having a crush on him for saving her life, and Jayne being mortified about it. That's what I was trying to convey, along with her insight into his changing character. Wonderful story. Really.

But, 'cause I liked it, I have a few things to say.
First is a personal opinion. WHY is everyone so obsessed with Jayne and River. Ew! No, really. It's totally statutory. And even if River was a grown woman, her emotional state is that of a twelve year old. But its your choice 'cause its your story. I just needed to express my views on that.
And, I know it shows the braveness of the characters and all that, but no one that seriously hurt (especially Zoe and Jayne) would be coherent after all of that blood loss. I do give you political license in that. I realize its fiction.
And some of the story was completely contrived. They happened to find all of the spare parts on the other shuttle?

Saving the best for last:
Great characterizations of Inara, especially. I liked seeing her in something that wasn't sexually motivated. And Jayne, with his suspicious self, made me giggle. And, Kaylee. Dear, sweet Kaylee. That's exactly how she talks. She and the rest of the Crew sounded like themselves. Great job on that.
