I loved this story the first time I read it. It's very dark and haunting, but somehow, right on the money.

I know Lydecker pulled some strings to get them secured at the cabin. I know he hated doing what he did more than he would ever let on...

The end sequence got me the most. Max saying smart ** and that whole moment of their eternity...
