Turtle Kid 2009-10-13 . chapter 21I read this story all today, deciding to put off an essay, but it is so worth it! It was such a rollercoaster of emotions, but I'm glad I didn't read it while it was unfinished--I don't think I could have gotten past the first few chapters where Hakkai was thought to be dead if there wasn't more to it. So yay! Thanks for writing such a great story! |
 akirareader 2009-07-16 . chapter 21you are awsome
this story rocked it made me laugh and tear up a little with a nice helping of angst

 hi 2009-03-28 . chapter 21 that was brilliant. |
jellyfish incorporated 2008-11-29 . chapter 21I love it.
^-^
The sublte Shounen - Ai implications, believable plot, twists and turns and -GASP- being In Character.
Fabulous. And one of the only Saiyuki Fics I've read that wasn't a full blown Yaoi-Fest. |
Everybody's Neesan 2008-06-29 . chapter 21Awesome story. You did a really good job with it. |
kerumica 2008-03-28 . chapter 4Ok, I have to admit it, I started reading this a few months ago and pushed it aside at chapter 2, thinking that it was gonna be angsty. I'm now on chapter 4 and totally engrossed. I so glad that I found this again. It really is good. I can't wait to finish.

Rayni 2007-10-10 . chapter 21What a lovely story! I was directed here by ladyequinox, who said something about this being the best Saiyuki fic out there. I am impressed.
Unfortunately, my only experience of Saiyuki so far has been the official manga, and it bothered me that your Goku didn't talk like my Goku. In the official translation, Goku shortens his words and speaks lazy English. Throughout your fic I had a sense that though the characters' actions were true, their words were just a little off.
Otherwise, I thought you understood the characters extremely well, making this an excellent story. *adds to favorites* |
anonymous 2007-09-16 . chapter 21 Best. Fic. Ever. Period. |
Zab Jade 2007-08-11 . chapter 21Great story. I really enjoyed it. I especially liked your characterization of Gojyo (loves redheads, and has a major soft spot for guy who've suffered severe child abuse).
Hakkai seemed a bit out of character to me, but the |
Equinox 2007-08-08 . chapter 21I found this in my bookmarks and realized that I hadn't left a review. I finished this fic a while ago and it is by far the best Saiyuki fic I have ever read. The characterization is spot on and your story slides seamlessly into the Saiyuki universe and is overall just positively wonderful. I'm adding it to my favourites and am looking forward to many more enjoyable rereads.

Jekka 2007-07-22 . chapter 21 Ah! Thank god! I've been waiting ages for this to finish, and you've done so beautifully. ^^ At last, I know how Goku and Hakkai wake up. They were unconscious for a long time! But it was worth the wait. Thank you. |
 Aidokime 2007-07-19 . chapter 21Excellent!
I only recently discovered Saiyuki, and this has been a treat to read.:) |
LiL PriNCeSs Me 2007-05-18 . chapter 21Oh my god, you're story is awesome! I just read the whole thing through, I just couldn't take my eyes away. Everything about this story was just perfect. I love the way you wrote this, you are very talented! This has got to be my all time favorite Saiyuki story, my favorite story ever. Its rare to find such a great fic that makes me smile, laugh, get worried, almost want to cry. Written beautifly. I love how you painted the relationship between all the guys, just fabulous. It's also nice to find fiction with the guys having a deep brotherly friendship bond, rather than being in love (or just having lust) eachother. Wonderful! That's okay sometimes, I enjoy these so much more, theres just something about them. Anyway, as you can tell I really enjoyed reading your story, and I'll have to definitly read more of your work. |
Sholio 2007-02-19 . chapter 21Finally, as promised, I sat down and read the whole thing from start to (yay!) finish.
It's hard to come up with good comments now, since I knew I'd love it (and I did) and I knew I loved your writing (and I still do), and even though I haven't read Saiyuki fic in years, the boys and their own unique brand of "tough love" are instantly, perfectly recognizable. I actually picked up the latest English-language Reload just a couple of days ago (which ends with Goku getting sliced'n'diced -- AUGH) so I'm all about the bishounen goodness these days. I can picture everything, and hear their voices in my head, and as always you have the perfect hurt-to-comfort ration DOWN: just enough to wrench at the heartstrings without wallowing in the angst.
Now I'm more positive than ever that we need to get you writing in the SGA fandom! *blinks innocently*
Interesting thing about not having read your fic in a couple of years ... I pick up on things that I never noticed before. What's unique for me in SGA fandom is that I've started reading slash, which I never really have before (aside from the odd story here and there, but mostly a "last resort" thing when I couldn't find gen with my preferred characters) and I found myself noticing shipping in this story that I really, truly don't think I ever picked up on before. Maybe I'm seeing the past through gen-colored glasses (heh) but I remember thinking of this story as straight gen, all the way. Re-reading it now, I definitely see a pretty strong Gojyo/Hakkai thread. Not that I mind; not only am I a lot more slash-friendly than I once was, but as far as I'm concerned, those two are basically canon anyway.
Beyond that specific thing, something else I noticed is how your writing style evokes the sensuality that I love about slash writing, without overtly *being* slash. And this is something that I truly had never noticed before, never having read enough slash to realize that it has its own style. Now that I've become a little more familiar with it, I see that style in your writing -- and I realize that it's probably one of the things that drew me to your stories in the beginning (aside from just the HUGE fact that you were one of the only other h/c writers in the fandoms I was in). But still, it reads a little different than straight gen does, and I imagine that I may have been unconsciously responding to that, because I've always loved your writing style without really being sure *why*.
Er ... this is long. *slinks back into shadows of lurkerhood* |
Chaotic Blue 2007-02-15 . chapter 21 WOW. This was amazing. I just discovered your fiction and I have to say that you are definitely one of the best Saiyuki writers I have ever come across. I LOVED your story, 'And Miles to Go' so I was excited to see you had another, even longer adventure story. The way you write the characters is just wonderful. They are very much in keeping with Minekura-sensei's originals, and I especially love the way you handle the relationships, leaving any shounenai vague but there for anyone who wants to see it, just like Minekura-sensei does. I always love to see a little tenderness between them. These are my favorite sorts of stories! The characters and their relationships are definitely the driving force of this series and you captured that wonderfully, but you managed to come up with such a wonderful adventure too!
As far as this story specifically goes, I'll tell you honestly there were several parts that had me in tears, especially in the beginning. And your device of using the red, violet, and gold chapters worked very well! Your invented villains were believable and the dialogue was great, especially for Sanzo. I loved how he handled the twins. All three of the boys were written so well it made me sad that there was no 'screen time' for Hakkai in his right mind at all. I was pleased to discover the story centered around him, I admit he's my fav, and there's nothing sweeter than his and Gojyo's friendship, unless of course it's Sanzo and Goku's relationship. ^_^
This one will definitely be reread many times. I'm extremely impressed by your talent and I hope it's not too selfish to hope that you won't abandon the Saiyuki fandom. Please, please give us another story! |
