Baby-Cellophane 2009-04-20 . chapter 1I normally avoid non-cannon slash because it's usually poorly written and non-believable. That is the rule.
This being said, you are the exception to the rule. Not only is your writing style fantastic, but this entire situation was plausible and realistic. Bravo! |
Scorpicus 2009-03-24 . chapter 1That was utterly fantastic. Characterisations of Frollo and Gringoire were dead on, the slash utterly believable, and you emulated both their styles of speech perfectly. Also, the way you described their reactions and facial expressions was just so detailed and unique. Excellent writing indeed.
Simply one of the best Hunchback fics on the site. I doff my cap to you! |
sakuuya 2009-01-25 . chapter 1This was amazing. Others have said it, and I know it's been several years since you wrote this, but I felt that it would be bad form to fave this without telling you how great was. The thing that struck me, even more than the spot-on characterizations, was how well you imitated Hugo's style. That man walked a very fine line between good, descriptive writing and purple prose, and most people who try to reproduce that fling themselves horribly off to the purple-y side, but your writing felt balanced and natural.
My one complaint would have to be with the indenting; it's unnecessary on this site, and therefore is sort of weird to read, because it's so unusual. No amount of formatting error, let alone one as insignificant as that, could lessen the majesty of this story, though. It doesn't even feel like crack. It just feels... normal, like something that very well might have happened. I'm pretty much in awe. |
twolionss 2008-10-18 . chapter 1Wow...the other reviews have covered pretty much what I wanted to say on this excellent piece! Characterization on both protagonists is spot on, the writting style makes the reader regret the short length of the story, the theme is totally believable...and yet, I suppose there is still one praise left to be said: this piece reads almost like a missing scene of the original novel. Actually, it reminds me of "Abbas Beati Martini" in terms of Claude's character developement - another aspect of course, but still not unlike in writting techinque. And I love how you fleshed out his yearning for beauty and how he loses himself when confronted with it.
I only wish there were more fanfics like yours... *sigh* |
Mrs. James Norrington 2007-07-16 . chapter 1Completely lovely! Gringoire was spot-on in character and Claude was bizarrely in character as well! You could pass for Hugo; your grammar is perfect and your style is awe-inspiring.
One teeny thing I noticed: Pierre is blond. A miniscule and unimportant thing compared to the outstanding-ness of this work. It's like a breath of fresh air after all the "Mary-Sue-goes-to-Disney-and-lives-out-her-fantasy" junk. Not that all the Disney fics are like that. But there are alot... |
Society's Cavity 2007-06-19 . chapter 1Ah... perfect style! I personally have a bit of contempt for Gringoire's character (don't know why, but he just rubbed me the wrong way in the novel) but I absolutely adored him in this story, and the amazing thing about that is that you kept him perfectly in character! Those two sets of circumstances shouldn't mesh! More impressive, though, was the characterization of Frollo, which was... beyond belief, really. The writing itself perfectly meshes with the original, and damn if I didn't enjoy it more, haha. I don't think I've ever considered a relationship like this between Gringoire and Frollo, so this was an interesting read on top of it all. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. |
mildetryth 2007-04-30 . chapter 1Very good. Very good portayal of Gringoire. loved his lines! |
CarminaBurana1 2006-12-12 . chapter 1Utterly brilliant. Your characterisation was spot on and you captured the style really well.
Also, the idea of this piece was excellent...why can't there be more fics as good as this on ffnet |
Evil Asian Genius 2006-06-03 . chapter 1Ah, I love it! I forgot how much I love the characters! Your characterization is just perfect, and your style is perfect. Why didn't I read this before? |
Samuel L. Mothafuggin Frollo 2006-04-06 . chapter 1Absolutely beautiful, classical language. I am very much in awe. I try to add a somewhat elegantly archaic air to my works, but I don't think I could ever pull it off as successfully as you. This very much keeps with the style of Victor Hugo and the original novel. One of the best HoND fics I have seen thus far. |
Prokhor Zakharov 2005-12-05 . chapter 1I loved it. It was beautifully written and your portrayal of the characters was perfect. Gringoire was delightfully comical, and I especially liked your dark Frollo perpetually tortured by his inner demons. Your writing really made me mourn for him. |
Scraper 2005-10-31 . chapter 1Holy crud... I did not see this coming... Anyway, in the book I had thought of Gringoire as a fabtastic character, almost silly but fab=nastic none the less |
 KidNovelist 2005-10-15 . chapter 1Hey,
Finally, a fic on the original book!
That's was wonderful. Pierre and Claude portrayed well in comparison to the book. I love the way Claude acts in this one especially about the love poem and the fire. Gringoire sympathy is very veritable and nicely portrayed.
Great job! I wish to read more from you... I like your writing style. |
Sara Trapnell 2005-09-04 . chapter 1 That was the worst piece of gahbage I have evah read in my entiah life.
You fail. |
Mizamour 2005-08-04 . chapter 1Wow. That was amazing. I LOVE your writing! Wow! |
