| Katta 2005-08-28 ch 1, | abusePoor Giles - I'm really grateful these things didn't happen! This was a lovely story, with the tragic scenes well portrayed, hearbreaking and believable. I particularly liked "Devotion" and "Necessity", but they were all great. Thanks for a good read! |
| RosieW 2004-10-31 ch 1, | abuseOh gosh this was so fantastic! I loved the different situations you came up with. *skips off to read more* |
| SecondSilk 2004-02-16 ch 1, | abuseFar out, that was tough going. Amazingly written though, and brilliant takes on the what-ifs of the Buffy-verse. |
| Leanne8582 2004-02-05 ch 1, | abuseA fabulous "5 things..." I loved this so much (might have something to do with Giles being my favorite character). I think the only way to review this properly is to break it down. The Title: I liked it. It reminded me of a quote or a saying... it went something like "Good health is just the slowest possible way to die". Devotion: Whoa. Scary. And not monsters-under-the-bed scary. Buffy and Giles becoming that hardend, that hateful. It's quite an image. I like how you portrayed Giles. The way his love and concern for Buffy never waivered. I just had one question about "He shoved her, for the first and last time." Does that mean that she never came to him again, or tht he never shoved her away again. Over all this was dark and disturbing and I loved it. Obligation: I'm writing a Joyce/Giles fic write now, so I'm partial to the ship, but this was just so sad. It was very in-character for Giles to propose to Joyce. He always did believe in doing the right thing, regardless of the personal consequences. Coercion: This was my favorite of the series. So, what does that say about me? I'm assuming that was still Faith in Buffy's body. Giles' "I love you" was so incredibly heart breaking. And that fact that he could say and feel that, even as Buffy was degrading and hurting him, says a lot about Giles as a person. Necessity: A common theme. I've read a couple fics where Giles kills Dawn in order to save the world. He would have been the only Scooby capable of it. But I like that you've taken it to a new place. Very good. And very in character. As Giles said, "She's a hero, not like us." Falsehood: I liked it. An unexpected consequence following Tabula Rasa and one I've never seen in a fic before. It also dealt with my most hated of loose-ends when the series ended: We never found out what happened to Ethan! This drove me insane, that Ethan Rayne was out there somewhere, causing mischeif, and we'd never know about it. No closure at all! Ahem. Well, anyway... This was so great. The best "Five Things..." I've ever seen. And despite the different situations and enviroments you keep Giles perfectly true to character. Amazing job. |
| Destruct-O Girl 2003-12-07 ch 1, anon. | abuseThis was excellent. |
| shesBLAZING 2003-11-18 ch 1, | abusevery well-done. great job! |
| twisgd 2003-10-06 ch 1, | abuseCuriously,in contrast to another reviewer, I thought the "Obligation" section the most UNlike Giles I could imagine. I cannot think Giles would ever view a child of his, however conceived, in this way; putting the blame on the child, in a sense. If he did 'the right thing', he'd do it all the way, try to make a go of it and do far more than just give the child a name. Also (forgive me) I did think the "what if Joyce were pregnant after Band Candy?" was somewhat cliched. It's been done a lot of times elsewhere. |
| Nikitangel 2003-10-02 ch 1, | abuseWow. Powerful. Vivid. Made me extremely uncomfortable, which I'm guessing was the intent. I would have trouble staying in a place like this long enough to write this piece. A very dark, gritty, disturbing set of stories. |
| drama-princess 2003-09-28 ch 1, | abuseWow. Wow. Just gut-wrenching and painful, ways that Giles's life could have very easily turned had things not gone the way they did. Characterization was *spot-on,* just brilliant how he reacted to things that he would have thought unthinkable. Best is number three, I think, with the "Burden. Duty. Obligation" So perfectly Giles. Definitely going on my favorites. |
| NIght Nymph 2003-09-28 ch 1, anon. | abuseI enjoyed that. The "Gift" story was my favorite, I think. |
| kittygoslingp 2003-09-27 ch 1, anon. | abuseWow. That is one of the best five things I've ever read. They were all good but I felt Devotion rang particularly true and Coercion was just so creepy, shudders. I loved the way you took aspects of Giles' history or willingness to do the difficult, the qualities that mark him out particularly as the adult of the scoobies and developed these in ways which, for the reader, skew the familiar just enough to creep us out. I guess, that that particular quality is why Obligation resonates less for me. Whilst I believe that Giles has many good qualities and might want to do the right thing by Joyce and any potential child, I don't think that he would compromise his mission and his slayer by so doing. After all, initially at any rate, he berated Buffy for her expanding circle of friends privy to her 'secret identity', telling her they made her vulnerable (which sometimes they did), I don't believe that he would give hostages to fortune - notwithstanding his tweediness he's still too Ripper. That said, I did enjoy that story, particularly the last line. Thanks. Kitty |
| Baked Goldfish 2003-09-26 ch 1, | abuseI love all of these, but especially the ones for Becoming 2 & The Gift. Great job. |
